Hi

I'm a bit confused about the autothrottle setting when taking off in a 737 or similar.

Should it be set (as I've read) to V2 + 5 knots (approx.) or to 250 knots (the normal climb speed under 10000 feet)?

I understand autothrottle shouldn't be turned on obviously in case of rejected takeoff but once airborne and at around 400ft when other autopilot functions are switched on (LNAV, VNAV, etc).

Hope this makes sense. Please help me understand this if anyone can.

I'm not sure about this one but I read on a 777 manual that you should set the autopilot to V2 + 5 knots. Now I'm not sure if it works the same way for a 737 but I think so.

i would think you would have it set to the 250 climb out speed...and only set it when you have achieved PROC and when you are ready to turn on the other Autopilot settings....like you said, around 4000 ft.

Ok, I've been reading some documents and what you should do it set the autothrottle to 250 before takeoff. When ready to takeoff arm the autopilot and then press the TO/GA knob/button and takeoff. Then try to keep under 250 and set 250 knots on the autothrotte and change from TO/GA to SPD.

I'm flying on holiday in a 737 tomorrow so I'll see if I can barge my way into the cockpit just as they're rotating and confirm then!!

Yea, that would be the best thing since simulation checklists usually don't really match the real thing. I think it's going to be a little difficult to look though since most companies force the pilots to close and lock the cockpit doors at least during takeoff and landing.

After you are arrested and locked away, can I have your copy of FSX and your system?  I could always use an extra.  ;D
