changed scenery settings but unhappy

Postby coreservers » Wed Jul 18, 2007 12:35 am

Hi.
I'm running fsx deluxe on
P4 3.4ghz
Nvidia geforce 7600 512mb
1gb ram (I've got a further 3gb on order)
Sidewinder usb stick for in air, game pad for taxiing

Last night I went to settings, display and moved the sliders up. to
detail radius large
mesh complexity 89
mesh res  19m
texture res 1m
water max 2.x I'm using the water final resolution add on.

Scenery complexity is set to very dense
autogen to dense
and special effects max'ed at high

I saved it as a seperate display file so as I can go back (i now have 4 saved)

However it seems to have affected the display negatively, the ground effects are worse, and the water looks like crushed paper.
Is there a reason, for this and can someone suggest how to improve the settings in this area.

I have scenery set at ultra high, and graphics the same at hte front end menu.

I would put my money on the RAM shoratage as a contributory factor, over and above that I would suggest you also make sure you upload the latest drivers for the graphics card.

I would also think the low RAM VS Single Core and your Card might not be the best of combination to expect to have good visuals on such high settings.

Scale down till you get more RAM and see if it helps?

Goodluck.

I may have given the impression I'm overall unhappy with FSX, not so. I really enjoy it. I seem to take fairly good screenshots etc.
It runs pretty well at target 20fps with scenery and aircraft set at ultra high, but I'll reset until I get the new ram (yes I am aware if the boot.ini changes I require)
I'm happy for FSX to only utilise the ram it needs without making the .cfg changes, Thel ink was very hlepful, and I'll "muck around" for a bit.  I may even invest in a better graphics card, as company of heroes runs more jerkily than fsx

Thanks for helping.
