Haven't had one since I overclocked/updated DirectX/downgraded my video drivers (158.22).

You decide what did it. ;D

Nvidia drivers in combination with DX

NickN said it was a Nvidia problem. I think its hallarious PTaylor keeps dodging that. MS probably did what they could on their end

I just had a problem with this like two minutes ago. I was on approach to Arlanda, Sweden (sorry, I forgot the code) and all of a sudden some window popped up and said my computer has run out of available memory (I have 2GB ram with 512MB gpu and 250GB hdd) and that I should reduce video/graphic/traffic settings in the game and then restart FSX.. I was like wtf this is BS. I had never had that problem before. I hope this fixes it. BTW I'm sure all my drivers are updated.

Well I downloaded that Microsoft update and I'm still getting the error. I'm downloading the lated Nvidia graphics driver to see if that will take care of it. I  clocked my 2.2Ghz cpu to 2.4Ghz and that did help a little before SP1 came out, I still have it at 2.4Ghz. I had never gotten any problem before and now  it just hits me. :(

You will need to follow the instructions from PTaylors web entry today

http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2 ... space.aspx

I will break it down for you. I did this and it made a difference! even though I am using XP X64

MAKE A COPY OF FSX.EXE AND SAVE IT SOMEWHERE SAFE!!!

1. Download this software and unzip it: http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php

2. After it is unzipped open the folder\Explorer_Suite_Setup

Well I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers and it seems to have stopped it (I've only tested once so far though). But when I try to open the fsx.cfg file with the CFF explorer it says "Cannot open PE file". What's that? And what do you mean by original fsx.cfg file? The one that u get when u install the game and has not been edited? I don't have that one anymore lol.

Miltestpilot:  thanks for that excellent post, but my problem is like others.  It just seems too complicated for those of us (the many of us), who don't have the skills or computer knowledge.  Yet we need it.  Is there any utility that we can download that will do it for us?

Miltestpilot: all went well until the Command Prompt>  as I have UAC disabled right clicking to give adminstrator rights apparently meant nothing and all I got was the usual right click menu of copy etc, etc.  But after putting the bcedit line in, after enter I got the message that bcedit was not a valid command.  I am sorry to put this on you.  I have Vista Home Premium installed.
