Gauges/panel for FSX-Please Help

I have moved onto Flight Sim X from FS 2002. I tried to download fighters like I did on FS 2002. And neither the HUD or gauges worked. I would really like to fly these fighters in Flight Sim X, and having intruments such as altitude and even HUD would be nice. Can someone please explain what is wrong, and any possible ways to get the gauges working? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

Most pre-FSX aircraft guages won't work in FSX. The ones that usually will work are the ones specifically designed for FSX.

That's not entirely true.

FS98 gauges will not work in FSX. That is for sure.

Many FS2002, Fs2004 and CFS2 gauges will work in FSX.

Any XML gauges should work in FSX ( those generally are in ".CAB" files )  but there are
some glitches with some aspects of XML and KEY event code that have changed in FSX
and even XML gauges may not work 100%...engine start code for one and XML statements
using "pound per hour" as UNITS and two that I know of.

I just load panels and gauges from FS9 aircraft that I import into FSX and test them.
If a gauge is not supported or does not work properly I simply find a replacement
gauge, if possible. If too many gauges do not work or are of the FS98 variety, I simply
abandon the effort and delete that aircraft.

One note...whenever you are importing an FS9 aircraft it  is best to keep the gauges
that you import with it in the aircrafts PANEL folder. That way it is easier to delete the
whole package if necessary.

Thank you for your replies, but I tried downloading fighters specifically for FSX, and still, the gauges do not work. In the pictures that came with the downloads, it shows everything working. Then when i fly the plane, even with the 2-D panel, it's just a panel. No instruments work. Does anyone know how to fix that? Thanks.

The planes are "FSX F-16 Viper Thunderbird Ship One" and  "FSX F-18 Super Hornet Blue Angels" I would be plenty happy with the 2-D gagues working. I just downloaded these for a start, for I have no virus scanning yet. Who knows if anyone puts viruses in these downloads. Once I do get virus scanning, I plan to download more fighters. I'd like to know how to get the 2-D panel gagues working. Thank you.

Ok, so after I get the missing gauges for the F-16, where do I put the file? Thanks.

viper.zip contains a subfolder named gauges. Open it & paste the complete contents (3 x files + 1 x folder) into the FSX\Gauges folder.

Yes, thank you. I got it working. So this goes for any plane I download?

Great.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Basically yes. Downloads vary & not all will need 3rd party gauges. Some gauges for earlier versions of FS will not be compatible with FSX. I usually paste any gauges in the Panel folder of the aircraft to check it out. This makes it easy to remove them if you don't wish to keep it for any reason. Try installing a few more aircraft. You should soon get used to it with a little practice.
