Do you, too,  use  Nvidia Geforce 6800?

Postby Hotshot » Fri Jun 22, 2007 9:06 am

I've been using 77.77 drivers since July 2005, with no problems at all in fs9 or FSX. Today, running FSX,  I've had my first-ever CDT, and my first Microsoft response to an error report: "Problem caused by Nvidia graphics driver. Recommendation: install an updated driver." The question is: which? Standard advice usually seems to be: the latest Nvidia driver. But I get the impression that the latest drivers only function well with the latest video cards.  My one attempt a year ago to update with the latest was a disaster, and I hurried back to dear old 77.77. So this is to ask forum readers: what driver really works for you with your 6800? Your advice would be much appreciated.

Hello, I don't have any problem like like yours, but I have a 6600GT (a newer one {limited edition by leadtek winfast, I buyed it last year}, by winfast).

To help you with the drivers:
You said you have 77.77.  I have 78.01 that's also a year old. I haven't thought of upgrading my driver beacause of I have no problems with it. But here my tipps:

You should first try to update to the last version that's properly and correct working with the GeForce 6' Series (so 6200-6900).
Here the Download-Link:
http://www.nvidia.de/object/winxp_2k_94.24_de.html
This is a much newer version because of the graphiccard manufacturers like MSI, Leadtek etc. (I'm not talking of the chipset manufacturers!) don't upgrade the drivers very often. So you could try to use the official Nvidia's one.

If that doesn't fix your problem, you can google for some alternative drivers called: Omega Drivers.
Note that this may on some systems cause un-expexted errors, and I'm not sure, I think you will lose your graphiccard support if you have problems (But I'm not sure at all).

So try this!

Ah, By the way, before you do all this, have you ever tried, before starting FS, to open your taskmanager and terminate the process thats called:
nvsvc32.exe or on 64bit systems also called: nvscv64.exe. This is the >>NVIDIA Driver Helper<< but I actually don't know if it helps on anything :D. But you can terminate that process without any following errors. Just restart and it'll be back.

That might make Fsx kind of hard to play.  ;D

Always keep your video card drivers up to date.  I was getting fatal errors resulting in shut down, and tech support told me to update the drivers (Im using an Nvidia Geforce Go 7600).  I did it, and now it is running fine.
