Engines off at Gate

After a long flight having reached the gate, I like to shut down the engines, open the doors, etc. As in reality.

Some planes in FSX accept the command m (+) - to stop the engines. Others do a kind of zoom function.

What

Forgot to say, that I get a green banner, telling me, that I forgot to start an engine, when I successfully shut them off. Even stranger  :-?

You should try Ctrl+shift+F1, that was the default for fs2004 to shut all the engines off.
and the green banner always comes up when you have no engines on.

other than that i dont know.

Shut the flying tips off, they're probably causing the green banners.

Yes, that exactely the soure of the problem.
Concerning the engine shutdown, as already stated above, CRTL+SHIFT+F1 will put the mixture down to 0, so jet or prop, the engine will stop :)
To answer your question, hitting "M" key will select the magnetos. If you hit "+" or "-" after, you'll change the magneto position, so hitting "-" several times will set it to OFF, and you already know that.
Now, on a jet aircraft, if I'm not mistaken there are no magnetos. This is why hitting "M" has no effect and the "+" and "-" keys stay assigned to the zoom. Instead, you should hit "J", to select the Jet engines, but I'm not completely sure anymore, you should double check in the keys assignation of FSX.

If you go into the settings for FSX, there is a command for Engine Shutdown, right above engine start. I believe it is blank, meaning no corosponding command. I just put my command in there (in my case CRTL+SHIFT+E) and i use that to shut down after flights.

Hope this helped ;)

You can just go into settings and controls. Then find the shut off all engines command and reserve it to whatever you want it to be.

The proper way to shutdown any aircraft engine, jet or piston, is to pull the mixture to off, which by default is ctrl-shift-F1.  Pushing the M button selects the magnetos, which on a piston engine airplane shuts off the ignition and will kill the engine, but isn't the real world way of doing it.  There is no other way to shut off a jet engine other than shutting off the mixture.

Exactly! ;)

I just kill the fuel-run switch in the 747...
