Confusing Traffic Pattern

Well, yeterday I was flying a short low altitude IFR hop from Leesburg Executive Airport (KJYO) in Leesburg, VA to Reagan National (KDCA) in the default Cessna 172. I take off runway 35 and Potomac approach has me immeadiately swing to heading 155. They were vectoring me around for the approach on runway 1 at DCA. But, I ended up flying right over Dulles International (KIAD) And it was not like I was at 30,000 feet, I was only at 3,000 feet. Is this supposed to happen? My flight plan in the planner looked nothing what ATC had me fly but thats understandable because they had to swing me around for runway 1.

this is possible - on several occasions i have received vectors to cross right over Houston G. Bush Intercontinental and Hobby in Houston, and Dallas Ft. Worth international in Dallas in a Piper Cherokee and a Cessna 172 at anywhere from 2 to 3 thousand feet... much less likely in the northeast near D.C. and further north but this sort of vectoring does occur in real life.

It often happens in the real world. As far as ATC is concerned you are actually crossing in the most efficient place. There is a 'cone' above the centre of the airport which is free of arriving and departing traffic. Otherwise real world ATC has to take you to hell and gone to keep you safely below arriving and departing tracks.

FSX ATC is a little sick in the head, and rarely use common sense, however this situation does happen. As stated there is a cone above any airport free from virtually any traffic. So your safe to travel through even the busiest airports without a scratch. FSX does have some weird habits, this however is not one of them. ;)

If you think that is bad the other day I was being vectored for a approach when ATC had me descend to 2,300 feet I obey only to find myself right smack dab in front of a 3,000 foot mountain. ATC never told me to go above 2,300 so I guess they wanted me to fly through the mountain so I turned off crash detection and like a true slave did just that, flew right through the mountain. Than ATC calmy proceeds to tell me to contact ground on 112.3 or some frequency. I wanted to tell them that I thought flying through a mountain qualifed for contacting ground. I would have loved to have met with this idiot and beat the you know what out of him. 8-)
