Hm, anyone know why this would happen?

It was very annoying obviously.

Flight following just means you are in touch with ATC and theyll warn you if there is traffic nearby.  Pretty much for VFR.

I think I remember hearing that happen to someone as they left Miami airspace.  I think they do that when you enter international airspace.  I also know theyterminate if you dont respond which you did.  So in otherwords, I dont know why that happened.

I believe that you restart the IFR flight by pressin no.1 (Creat/open IFR plan) then just reload the destinations, then load the flight like normal, but when you get to the screen that says move player aircraft to departure airport (I think, just click no.

I'm not sure if that's what you meant, but if not tell me and I'll explain more, I have to go to bed :P

Follow ATC? If you do not respond it cancels flight plane... Your altimeter may of been wrong press B (or was it G?) to tune it to the correct setting.

ATC asked you to maintain 16000, but it looks as though you are somewhere in the range of 10000-16000. If you don't follow instructions they will cancel the flight following. As you move out of the flight following area the controller usually passes you on to the next tower, so i don't think moving out of the area is it.

And ignore my set altitude, this was before I decided I was going to land anyways  ::)

When he canceled it was around 17k feet, so before I even reached it.

I press 'B' like a madman  ;D  I guess I should retry the flight, and if it occurs again, I'll be back!

if your going to choose an altitude higher up i would avoid anything between 16K and 19K

I have noticed that occasionally when you select 18,000 feet your altimeter should be correctly set to 19.92" but ATC doesnt always account for this it seems like and they are viewing you as a few hundred feet off your assigned altitude... so you reset the altimeter and go down to 18,000 feet as it is indicated on the altimeter and they now see you at like 17,700 feet or something

its pretty whacky, this may have been what got you... just try a cruise altitude higher than 19K or lower than 16K and you will be ok.

once in a blue moon in real life ATC would rather you didnt linger right around FL180 (18,000 feet) probably for a similar reason.

if you were flying on an IFR plan, and you had say 2 hours to get to your destination, and you didn't get there within a certain time period after that, they will cancel as well.

You can cancel and reopen an IFR at anytime.  I did it during a flight to Kansai from Narita.  I wanted to fly past Mt. Fuji, so I canceled the IFR, requested flight following, and flew off.  Once I wanted back on track, I asked to open a plan, called up the plan I wanted, and I was back on track.  Only trick, and you will need to do this as well if you manually move your plane along a track in the map setting as well, you need to tell your GPS where you are along the track.  When you open the IFR plan, the GPS will usually start from the first waypoint, and if you follow the flight director and/or fly on the AP, the waypoint will point you back towards the beginning.  To change the waypoints, open your gps, select fltpln, hit the big push button, turn the knob till you get the waypoint you want to fly to (trial and error most of the time), hit menu (I think), then hit enter.  I am not sure about the last two steps, but look in your learning center under the GPS section, and it will tell you for sure how to do that.  Once you reset your GPS, you are back good to go with your waypoints.

Make sense?

Boeing 71K: Descend and maintain 16,000, Boeing 71K

ATC: Boeing 71K, IFR flight plan is cancelled, radar services terminated, Squak 1200. Maintain VFR. Frequency change approved.
