SDK help

Postby LowFlight » Thu Jun 14, 2007 2:41 pm

I'm trying to get the object placer in FSX Deluxe to run, and am having no luck at all.

I've followed the installation instructions, yet it doesn't seem to be working. I have set to false for the Object Placement Tool, yet I get no SimConnect diagnostic window at all, and no indication of a Tools menu anywhere in FS.

Can anyone tell me what I might have missed? I've literally been trying on and off for a month to get it to work. :'( (It has me feeling like quite an idiot....)

The same time as the SP1 came out for FSX there was an SP1a update for the SDK (thats the second update for the SDK at the present time).  Try applying that and see if it helps......  Go to the SP1 download at FS Insider, look at the smallprint of the download page and there is a link to SP1a

Thanks, but I tried SP1 and SP1a. Still no luck. Installing SP1a was the last thing I tried before posting here.

Did you enable the object placer tool in the dll.xml file?

   Object Placement Tool
   False
   False
   ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll

dll.xml file loated (by default) - C:\Documents and Settings\USername\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

Copied and pasted from my dll:

-
 Object Placement Tool
 False
 False
 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll

I've tried it with both relative and absolute path names.

and, stating the obvious, you ARE looking for the menu once you're in a flight, and not just in the create a flight or preflight screens?

It's there!!

I *know* I've checked the in flight menu bar for Tools before- but lately as I've been fighting with it I've just been looking for the Tools menu in the main menu area (Missions, Freeflight, Home, etc). As I said above, I really didn't know where to expect the Tools menu to appear.

I have no idea how long it's been there, or which change brought it forth- but the short answer is that it's there now and it works. Thanks for putting up with the newbie type question and helping me troubleshoot.  ::)

Speaking of mission creation, is it likely there will be a download section for sharing FSX missions on Simviation? I've seen this on at least one other website, and it seems just as obvious a thing to share as repaints or scenery. Has there really been no call for it?
