HP desktops are very good. VeiwSonic Flatscreens monitors have the best picture. Get Vista Ultimate with that and it should run real smooth (I'm not a graphics card expert  though)

Wait for a few more months until the new Penrhyn processors are on the market, and the next generation of video cards are available. ATI have new design cards coming, and I am sure that nVidia will as well.

And buy the fastest, the top, even if you think them too expensive. I made the mistake of buying the second fastest Intel e600 series, and clearly performance is markedly reduced. Make sure the motherboard is robust and stable.

Unless you can afford the next generation of Alienware, getting a new computer built is probably the best way to go.  Any of the readybuilts like HP and Dell will require you to option up, so can end up more expensive than specifying components for your local shop to build for you.

Watch this forum as experts like NickN and others will surely advise us on the best hardware.

Darn! Building your own... about a third (!!!) of that figure could get you a system that would max out FSX for sure... head over to the hardware section.... read the FAQ at the top.... and I'm sure the experts over there would gladly help you out from there (to your great satisfaction, especially with that kind of budget :o)...
