having trouble with a few things

First of all most of the time for some reason I have trouble downloading the aircraft from this website.  Most of the time it gives me an error that "internet explorer could not download from www.simviation.com, the operation timed out.  I can download from almost every other site with no problem.  What does this mean?

Second, I install the aircraft and follow the directions on how to install and still when I load the aircraft things don't show up.  For example I installed properly the fsx updated sr-71a blackbird and when I load it details such as the cockpit guages and panel don't show up, on the outside the flames that are supposed to come out of the aircrafts engines don't show up, all I see basically is the model of the aircraft, minor details don't show up but it can still fly and still has all the physics.  I put the files that needed to be installed to the effects and guages folder in there.  What's wrong with this, it didn't happen in flight simulator 2004 and it was much less confusing to install aircraft.  It's not a problem with my computer and it goes way beyond the recommended system specs for fsx.

Also with updated aircraft, do you need the original aircraft and to update it with the new one or can you just install the updated aircraft and delete the old one.  Sometimes it works the other way where you can just delete the old aircraft but not always.  If you have to update the old one with some new files from the updated one, how do you do that.

I tried following the directions that come in the text document but either the aircraft doesn't show up in fsx or details on it are missing.  Most of the time it's just the burner effects in the back of the engine that don't show up even though i installed it correctly.

When it comes to the BlackBird, I installed it two days ago, and in the virtual cockpit I noticed too that a lot of gauges are missing. Maybe I missed an upgrade somewhere, or am I missing some gauges which were not included in the pack ?

I don't know why you're having problems downloading files. Maybe it's something your end. You could try a different browser like Mozilla Firefox. Also check out the troubleshooting page. http://www.simviation.com/accessprob.htm

So when you install the sound and texture files do you leave the folders in the aircraft folder or install the folders files to C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X's sound and texture folders which have the same folder name as in the aircraft folder.

Also I still haven't solved the problem of the effects showing up in the back of the engines, for example there are no jets coming out of the engines nozzles however it's physics and speed are still the same.

You install the complete Aircraft Container folder (the folder directly containing the familiar Model, Panel, Sound & Texture subfolders) to the FSX\SimObjects\airplanes folder just as you would to FS9\Aircraft. It's not different at all.

As for the effects I'm not sure they will work in FSX. I'll download that file later to check it out.

I downloaded the Blackbird & installed it. I haven't got the effects to work but think I can explain the lack of at least some gauges. Note these instructions in the Read me.txt file;

[quote]If you have not already done so, copy the [.cab files] from the B737-800; and the Lear45 panel folders to the main FS gauges folder.

Lets get those effects working then.

Sorry. Maybe I'm missing something but the afterburner effects don't work for me. You might have to assign a key for the Concorde AB from Settings/Controls. Mine is assigned to Shift + F4.

Not sure about those incompatible features. I thought that option was only in FS9. In FSX the aircraft will either work or it won't. If you give me an example I'll check it out.

Are you sure you didn't get any of it, it made perfect sense to me.  By the way there is no fsx.cfg file, even tried searching hidden files in the fsx main folder.

hmm... The afterburners were working for me, but not corresponding with the trottle, but the 'all lights' key.  I imagine that's no the problem, but perhaps...

That's the answer. Well done. ;)
