Okay, so I hop in the default Cessna 172, and turn on the front "headlights" (I forget what those lights are actually called), and the are like 10 feet off to the left of the plane. They turn and follow me just they would if they were in the right place, but they are just off to the side. Why??

The landing and taxi lights are mounted in the wing. ;)

Ya, I know that, but it's only on the left side, and I think they go further out than the wing...

Have you looked outside from spot view? It depends on the model but on the FS9 C172 the lights are on the port wing only.

There's your landing lights, on some older model the lights are mounted in the nose. ;)

Now.. the question is... Why were they moved from the front cowling, to the wing ?

Ya, it seems more reasonable to put them in the front...

When Cessna makes an airplane that lasts fifty years, they have to do something new to get people to buy the new model. :D

Apparently they started out on the wing before being moved to the cowl. The extra vibration shortenened the life of the landing light bulbs so they moved them back again.
