Jerky FSX.

I bought a Dell M1710 laptop to run FS9 during wet moments whilst on holiday in Cumbria & have just added FSX.   With very high settings it is running as smooth as silk.  This morning I had a quick fly & was horrifed to find FPS down in the 5 or 6 range & the graphics were awful.   The same was true for FS9.   HELP I thought   :'(    .....then I remembered it was running on battery power.  As soon as I plugged into the mains supply, FPS shot up to 29 - 40 & both sims were as smooth as ever!!!    So - always plug your laptop into the mains for flight sim!!!    ::)

The fact is that on most mobile computers, there is an automatic tool that lowers the power (I mean "strength") of the CPU as well as the luminosity of the screen in order to make it consume less power, and thus work longer.
It's something about the energy management I think. Somewhere you have the choice about the strategy, and you can tell Windows to continue working at full speed even when the computer is on the batteries... of course it will last shorter.
