I remember that days that from FS2002 we all went to FS9.
Those were the days of the WTF. Even more than today, actually.
A lot of people sang about the "great graphics of FS9" comparing it to the "poor graphics of FS2002". I'm still laughing my behind off, even after those years.
I did not even bother to point out to those poor delusional (or next to blind) beings at the time that the differences between the two simulators were mostly under the hood (weather, mostly). That the graphics' differences were little to nil.
I must admit that, coming from FS98 (and having decided that FS2000 was an abort better forgot, a failed attempt at better) to FS2002, I thought that FS9 would be a... pause of refection, shall we say, in wait for something better. To a something comparable to the very same jump made before.
I can't but byte my knuckles bloody at my naivety.
But after all, what was I expecting for M$? What could I ever expect from someones who have a simulator in their hands, and yet treat it like a mere
game.
The so waited for FS10 revealed itself to be in the end... the graphical upgrade that should have been given with FS9 to make it a complete upgrade from FS2002.
How many really have wised up to the fact that we're running one complete release behind, I cannot but wonder.
Oh, yes, M$ threw there the fact that now the earth is spherical... almost an afterthought, to make somewhat happy the few less inclined to make themselves blind by new sleeker graphics.
Whoopeee... the earth is now spherical for M$ too. Hell, they wised up to this even after the Roman Church. That's something else altogether.

What? The 99.999 barrier is not there? So what?
It's not like you can even think to build a plane using that new feature. After all, the planes' dynamics are still the very same of FS95, meaning you can go up there only slewing, and so much fun that is. A useless feature is no feature at all in my book.
Too little meat, too many feathers, at least for this old wolf.
As I see it, and if you read what I wrote above you can very well surmise for yourself, what is now FSX should have been published three years back as FS2004, for it to have been a real new version. If you discount the spherical earth, FSX is nothing but a graphical upgrade of FS9.
In the end? I'm treating FSX like FS2000 (read above).
I'd wish to hope FS11 will be something really worthy, but I seem to have misplaced my hope. Should any of you find it, could you send it to me? Thank you.
