FSX Likes and Dislikes

Finally, for my money, this is the sim which gets within spitting distance of reality. I've been a simmer since FS98 and thought FS9 was the bee's knees, but FSX is another level of reality altogther.
However, I do have likes and dislikes - do you? If so, what?
My likes are the convincing detail scenery, the way buildings no longer look as if they have been dropped into place from on high, the traffic is great, the F9-F12 view options is handy especially the see-thru 2D.
I dislike the way many mountains still look like they are blancmange, the rare 1sec freezes - but infinitely better than the stutters - the fir trees which seem a little too tall. I hate the black loading screen.
So what are your likes and dislikes?

Likes:
Multiplayer
Autogen
Missions
Mesh
Ground Textures
Default planes
DDS textures
Improved flightdynamics
Improved view system
Truely unlimited visibility (no hard horizons of fs9)
no 100 000 feet limit
Dislikes:
Light bloom has an unacceptable framerate hit even though other games have been doing bloom for YEARS with no hit.
Autogen pops in
Scenery Radius is less than HALF of fs9s
Needs hours to tune
Blurries
The use of the second core using SP1 does little.
The Microsoft team comminicating with the community.
there is a speed limit
Default jet flightdynamics (approaching at 150knots with flaps 30 in a 737?!?!)
Default sky textures
Default jet sounds are retarded.
Who was the marketting genius who decided that FsX should only run well on next generation computers? So people don't buy it now, instead in 5 years they buy it off ebay for $2? So no one buys it when it originally comes out? So there is huge amounts of hardware issues? So people go back to previous Flight Simulators? So people send hate mail to redmond? Nick was right.... Fire them all.
Hire one of those guys who did the Source engine (Awsome physics, frame friendly and looks awsome) and combine forces with the LOMAC developers.

There's many points
Likes:
- the environment, the whole new scenery system, from the finaly round Earth to the finally white snow
- the head movements in the virtual cockpit, which was something I lacked cruelly in FS9. It brings a whole new feeling while flying.
- the general visual enhancements (graphical effects and so)
- the new autogen density which finally makes a forest look like a forest, and a city look like a city
- the animated airports (jetways and service trucks)
- the missions
- the glider experience, even if this is still very basic, I have to admit, but I already appreciate a lot
- the multiplayer engine, finally smooth flight in tight formation
- the ability to go into space
- the new ground behaviour (different handling on dry, wet, mud or snow)
- the default aircrafts models, beautifull outside and in the virtual cockpit as well
Dislikes:
- the stupid security stuff, which will make you confirm each gauge of each plane
- the even more stupid error message when a gauge is not compatible (if it doesn't work, don't show it and shut up !!! )
- the fact that the default liners still have only a basic bunch of clickable buttons (like lights and radio) in their virtual cockpit, I would have prefered only one liner with all clickable buttons, like a good payware.
- the lack of thrust vectoring (no Harriers, Ospreys and likes, no manovrability in space)
- the lack of rocket-type engines (no engines in space)
- the lack of aircraft damage handling (stress, collision, engine reliability, mishandling etc... like in IL-2, my favorite reference in this domain)
- the new ATC window (too big and ugly)
- the speed limitation of the physical engine (max 2000 knots or so, low orbit is simply impossible, even with slew)
I certainly forgot some stuff...

The thruth is that you can already fly it NOW on today's computers (I do it on my 2 years old computer) and you will be able to fly it even better on tomorrow's computers.

You should add:
If you have a Microsoft engineer at your disposal or want to spend HOURS on end tweaking. I have gotten fsX to also run great (after 20 hours of tweaking, or 1/3rd my time alltogether), however the bad performance is still unacceptable.

The tweaking of my FSX took approximatively 30 minutes all cumulated... and I'm not an engineer, nor working for microsoft...

Loads of stuff there I so agree with, though forgot to mention myself. Yes, Zero Time's mention of the glider experience is true - and isnt it great you can now summon up a tow plane, thats what I call progress.
Daube, you are obviously more experienced than me so I havent sufferred your probs with the gauges. But... you dont happen to be using Vista by any chance? If so this is probbly down to Vistas UAC, something I turned off pretty quickly as I just do not have the time or patience to live with that - however, thats not advice, people who know all advise strictly against turning off UAC. I just like to be different.

Likes: too many to name. It's a bloody great program. It will be even better when the sim community is really supporting it.
Dislikes:
-Virtual cockpits. Why, oh why can't I see my f**kin' instruments!!?? Why can't I see the f**kin' runway!!?? Virtual cockpits are great if you really like the look of the panel and cockpit of the aircraft you're flying- but after lots of trying I find that they generally fail to be a practical way to fly. I miss being able to 'raise the seat' (by pressing Shift Enter), so I could fly/land without having to switch screens!
-No multiple user! FSX is the first sim title that has my wife flying also. She's working through the beginner missions and I'm working through the more advanced. But we can't tell who completed or won what. It seems allowing multiple 'player accounts' would have been an easy thing to build in. There must be many cases where multiple people are sharing the same copy of FSX on the same PC. Missions are such a key selling point of FSX that it seems absurd that they didn't think to allow multiple people to enjoy them.

runs great on my machine... especially after SP1
given the nature of my job i dont dedicate as much time to the sim like i used to do.
I have been into MSFS since 1984 - yikes - and i have to say that this by far is the most satisfying yet!
the only thing i dont like about FSX is the performance hit you take when flying around large cities other than that most of the flying i do is back country, rural and small towns anyway. (pancake fly in - grass roots general aviation type of stuff) so FSX freakin FLIES on my computer.

)I am always flying in FSX,and I completly forgot FS9...Its well enough to dump it
Exept:
___________________________________________
The watter(Ocean & Lakes in the night)
It creates the scenerys when I flying toward city ( FS9 never did)
Some details in some mdls (specialy in my favorite plane The Lear45)

and those square ugly buildings

Temporary fix: In the same place as your fsx.cfg is a file called GrantedRewards.Bin Make three folders in there, standard, your name, wifes name. Use the standard to keep the default file, play your missions and place the new file in your folder. The wife plays hers and you place it in her folder. Whoever goes next, drag the file out of the folder and carry on, then replace it afterward. Drag a shortcut to the folders to your desktop for easy access. A bit kludgy but it will work.......

Trojan R - no, I never played that, should I? I do play CFS2 and 3 a bit, otherwise I got put of combat flying by BoBII which was truly terrible.
Yeah, I too dislike watching the cities build before your eyes, although a little tweaking has improved things to an acceptable level. Yeah, FS9 was super-smooth, I had everything up to max and frames were always good. But I too will probbly dump it now, difficult to see why to keep it. I loved that sim, though.

Already thought of getting TrackIR?

got track IR and it is great... im not sure which VC your using to not see the runway and instruments... you can always press control enter or control backspace to raise or lower your seat just like in real life. try to raise your seat a couple of inches and the runway will be there... as far as not being able to see all the instruments... i feel it is more realistic to play with the cockpit zoom in most planes set zommed out to 00.60 zoom. also i have designated the clickable mousewheel on my mouse to toggle mouse look on and off. if something is just slightly out of view i click the mouse wheel and mouse look right or left, then i can use the number pad to recenter the view (when not using track IR) keep in mind that Track IR
can give you motion sickness if you use it for long periods of time. I can fly in real life through icing, rain, snow and lift you out of your chair severe turbulence at 25 thousand feet while drinking a raw salmon milk shake but you put me on trackIR for a couple of hours and i feel a little woozy... not a lot... just enough to notice it. Probably the whole sensation of movement without actually moving thing going on who knows.
