"Golden Age Mod"

remove all of the airports and navaids from FSX

EXCEPT - those that were known to exist during 1920 - 1940

put new airports into FSX that DID exist then but have since been closed or demolished.

only allow planes that were known to exist in the period of 1920 - 1940

Airlines would operate planes like the ford trimotor and the DC-3 etc... GA would be all staggerwings and classical aircraft of the period.

i think it would be kinda cool,

It would be, maybe. With about 2 years work, and buying a bunch of old sectionals, yes, very possible.

Nice idea, but let's think about this logically:

Research:
Someone, or a whole team of people, must find out what airports existed in the era you've specified.
Someone, or a whole team of people, must find out what aircraft existed in the era you've specified.
Someone, or a whole team of people, must find out what buildings, ground vehicles, and sea vehicles existed in the era you've specified.
Someone, or a whole team of people, must find out what airlines (if any) existed in the era you've specified.

Developement:
Someone, (you know the rest), must remove all airports that didn't exist in the era you've specified, and replace their areas with something random, like a flat patch of land, or a huge rainforest, etc.
Must create, or gather, all aircraft which existed in the era you've specified.
Must replace all buildings, autogen, ground vehicles, sea vehicles, and ALL urban textures used in FSX.
Must generate AI flight plans for all airlines (if any) that existed.

Nice idea, but still, the above says it all... :P

so would it not be possible with a team of modders working on it.

most of the international airports would have to be deleted.

most large buildings were around in the era of the 30's except for like the space needle and several other similar landmarks.

moving the planes in and out would be very easy - just base it on planes that are already available.

It would be very difficult, and though we will never see it - it would be possible right?

yes, it's possible, but u would need a lot of time, a lot of resources, and a very dedicated team to achieve it.

get those three requirements, and u can do it. :)

And again somebody wants to go back to the wonderfull flying years without computers and glass cockpits. I understand that desire! Check http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1180294094" and find my post there about this time travel stuff.

yeah i recall the time travel feature well - despite the fact that it was ages ago.

I like the idea of being able to fly a DC3 in American Airlines Colors in the old route structure, or fly a stearman from an Army Air Field somewhere in the 40's using only map and compass.

thats he real challenge of flying.

I mean anyone can climb out on glass and click on the autopilot at 1500 AGL and then land the bird when the time comes... Hell i do it for a living 15 days a month...  but i want to load real world weather and fly a curtiss Jenny from A to B using only a sectional chart, a plotter and a stop watch. That is the real fun and challenge of aviation. And it is the form of flying all of my students had to master before i would even teach them a thing about GPS!

It looks like you want to create missions. Do you own FSX deluxe? I have some experience with creating static scenery, but not entire missions yet, but it sounds like that what you want is feasable with the Mission Builder. Maybe FSXMissions is a good site to start. When you click "Learning center" you'll find two pdf manuals.
