Aircraft Textures

I noticed that of the several default aircraft textures in FSX, one and only one seemed to have more files than others. For example, the B747-400 have eight (8) or so files and all seemed to have the same files except for one which has five or six extra files. Does that mean anything? I brought this up because I started tagging default aircraft used in Missions so that I don't delete or replace them. In the description section I simply add MISSION DEFAULT AIRCRAFT. I made the mistake of replacing these aircraft with downloaded textures and it caused haywire when I play Mission games.

One of them is the base aircraft, so the texture folders use this for the base files for that aircraft.  Rather than repeating in each one, only has to be done once.

That is one of the neat features of FS-X - you don't have to copy and paste ALL the textures when you create a variant...

However, make sure, when you do a repaint, that you have the texture.cfg file in your new variant, which is what "tells"  the program where to look for the "missing"  textures.
