FSX Add-on question regarding propellers and cloud

Hey, I just signed up and have a question (I hope this is the right forum). I already used the search function and didn't find anything on this so here it goes. With certain FSX add-ons (such as the Avanti which is an absolutely astounding add-on, by the way) there is an issue with the propeller such that it will mistakenly "hide" behind clouds (see the picture below). Is there any way to fix this? Thank you for any help.

Happens in a Piper Cub too. Another amazing bug from Micro$oft.

Interesting, I don't seem to have this problem in the Piper Cub. Thanks for the response though, if this is a MS bug then here's hoping SP1 will have a fix.

It's a general problem and I've experienced it with every prop plane (add-on or not).

And I doubt we'll get it fixed in SP1.

I for one do not think this is a problem at all. In the real world when you look at a turning prop as it gathers speed it will be harder to make out the individual blades of the prop and under certain conditions the entire prop will become invisible. It is kind of like a camouflage as clouds do indeed have a colour then if you put something in front of that cloud that is close to or is the same colour it is going to be hard to spot the object in front of the cloud. Lets face it it is rather hard to see a object turning at the speeds some of the props reach. If you throttle down while looking at the prop you will see it as it slows down it will become more visible. 8-)

Why do you think that they color the tips of each prop with red lines? It is supposed to make them more visible but it does not all ways work as even with the paint under certain conditions the props will become hard to see. Which is why working on a flight line is so dangerous you can not forget where you are or you will be sorry!. A turning prop shows no sympathy

Yeah, same here.  i'm pretty sure all props/helos have this glitch.

2 fixes-
1. Don't fly helos/props
2. Turn off clouds

glad to be of help ;)

In the real world, it's hard to see a heli-blade or an aircraft-prop at high rpm...you'll see the land, scenery, water, sky, whatever before you see the blades / props. Again, that's why aircraft-props and heli-blades have "stripes" painted on them to create a "circle" that is visible while they're spinning at high rpm. I usually can see right through the blades / props in FSX (except for the "circles")...adds to the realism.

Check out lacrossefan's screenshot again. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5658/clipil1.jpg
There is no way that is realistic. The question here is whether it's the same with the default aircraft. If this display bug only affects addons I suspect the aircraft were not created using the latest SDK & it's not a problem with FSX itself.

Here is a bigger version of the same picture: http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/8677/clipdh7.jpg

I do not think I have been able to get something this drastic with the default prop planes, but I will look into it. In the end, I guess it isn't too big of a deal but I am still more curious over why this occurs (and if it can be fixed) than anything else.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm at a disadvantage as I only have the FSX Demo. It seems to me that this is a display priority issue probably affecting 3rd party aircraft created with the FS9 SDK. I've seen it before in other versions of FS. I note that the Avanti in your shot is actually a FS2004 aircraft. There are not many 'proper' FSX aircraft around at the moment.

nah, I'm pretty sure it happens on all aircraft, even default.  I have FSX and it does that on everything.  Like lacrossefan said, it's not really that annoying, but sort of interesting....
