You have two options:
- the instant replay will let you see the last 100 seconds (not sure for FSX, but it was the case for FS9) of your flight. It's not a real video, the game just moves back your plane where it was at that time. (I'm not really clear on that one, but you'll understand when you'll see it)
- FRAPS: a shareware program that will record a real video of what you see on your screen. The shareware version will let you record only sequences of 30 seconds maximum (but as many sequences as you want). Once you buy it, there's no time limit anymore. The impact on the performance while recording is big, though, especially if you record the sound as well ans no just the video. (there's an option)

If you expand those, there are more options.

Within FS, you can use instant replay, to see the last vague moments of your flight.  You can use the Flight Video tool to record a video of your flight, then play it back at any time.  There is also a program called FS Recorder, which allows you to do roughly the same as the in-built Flight Video, but you have more options, such as being able to choose what parts of the flight are recorded, like smoke, AI, control surfaces, engines, etc.

Outside FS, making videos, like AVIs and MPGs, you can goolge a lot of recording software.  The most well-known out there is FRAPS, but there are other like Game Cam.  All of which will pretty much destroy your frame rates.

The third options is to buy a recorder PCI card, or a DVD recorder more commonly used for normal TV, and have FS record through that.  There will not be any frame rate loss through the DVD recorder method, but the PCI card, unless it's on another computer, will probably take away some frames.

Hope that helps (or confuses you a little bit). ;D

What works on my system (Windows XP Pro):

In Settings/Controls, assign a keyboard command to "Video recording (start/stop)"
Hit that keyboard assignment once to start recording
Hit that keyboard assigment again to stop recording
Open up "My Documents" then open up "My Videos"
There should be a new mpeg vidio file there with your recording

Well this is strange...untill today the "method" I posted for recording FSX video has always worked on my system every time. After trying it again a bit ago, that method no longer works...very strange indeed. My apologies for posting recording methods that apparently no longer seem to work...not sure why they don't anymore...a mystery to me also!

Apologies and Regards,
Nigel

Well Str1ker, I may have a "normal"  ;D version of FSX, but apparently I don't have a "normal" system  :o ! Curious me...I tried it again. Video Record Start then Video Record Stop. Opened My Documents then My Videos. There it was...a Flight Simulator X Files folder. Opened it up and there it was this time...a Windows Media video file with the Windows Media Player icon. Clicked on it and it started to play in Windows Media Player with no sound. All was well and then my system froze...couldn't even use the Ctrl+Alt+Delete thing...had to re-boot manually! Even more curious now, I tried the whole process again. This time, no video icon in My Documents/My Videos/Flight Simulator X Files  :o ! I am now assuming that my system is just plain psychotic and soooo...To others seeking FSX video recording instruction, use any instruction I may have posted AT YOUR OWN RISK and remember that the "method" came from my psychotic computer system!!!  :o
