Problem Loading FSX

Postby Bubblehead » Fri Apr 20, 2007 10:37 pm

I've submitted the subject matter in this thread several times including other PC forums but still no joy. My problem is that when I try to load FSX DeLuxe, the first disk will load OK but when load disk 2 after the request, nothing happens when I click OK. So far I have done the following:

1.  Tried a different DVD optical disk. No joy.
2.  Load it in three different drives. No joy.
3.  Tried a different copy of FSX. No joy.

The computer seems to work well. I can play DVD movies. I have successfully loaded other non-DVD games including FS9.
Frustrated, I took my PC to a professional computer service shop. After three days and various tests, they still were unable to successfully load FSX. Here I am with a new powerful computer just so I can play the FSX  and it won't even load. I have successfully loaded the FSX in my older computer but I can play the game at a mediocre setting. I don't imagine any of you ran into this kind of problem.

That's Weird ,especialy when you said I have try another DVD unit, You know I had some "memory issues" in my other computer before I bough this new one,but at least it says "Can't read the disk"or somethink like this,Was a virtual memory issue, I did have to Defrag my Hard drive and get rid of many things to allow more free space in the HDD.
But you said it doesn't do anything, you should contact Microsoft on line (If the DVD disc 2 doesn't have a scratch or Been exposure to the Sun )there's got to be a guarantee.
I always Have think that DVDs are NOT design to read data ,this was an option added later ,sooner or later DVD will be just what are desigh to do Digital Video Disc, and something else will replace this.

Try another Computer (Don't activate it) just to test the disc.if you have a friend with another pc.

anyway let hear more opinions about this rare uncommon  issue..

Cheers

This is a known problem and the disk is more than likely NOT FAULTY.  The disks are packed to the rafters with protection against copying, backups and gawd knows what.  Nero, Partition Magic, anything of that nature can stop the contents from showing, stop the disk from working and so on.  For some reason it doesn`t affect everyone but losing that software ilk renders the disk fully useable, make of it what you will.

Rather than post a link to another forum I`ll borrow the details, as this is to help a fellow user.  If you can at least browse the disk, even if on someone elses machine (then float it back by a network cable) you can proceed as follows.

1. Create a folder on your desktop called FSX.
2. Copy the contents of Disk one to this folder.
3. Swap Disk 1 for Disk 2.
4. Restart.
5. Copy the files from disk two into the FSX folder on your desktop (a few files have the same name, they are unimportant, but don't overwrite).
6. Now you can take the discs out if you want. And start the installation by double clicking setup.exe in the FSX folder on your desktop.
7. After installation insert your product key and activate as normal.
8. Feel free to delete that FSX folder on your desktop, it'll be huge. FSX runs without any discs in.

NOTE: The bold part of this article was borrowed, simply in order to help a fellow user in trouble, not to claim the work as my own.

Alrot:

The service tech ran the PC to the necessary tests (whatever that involves) and declared that none of the PC components are malfunctioning. The Liteon DVD R/RW works with movie discs. My previous FSX (Std) copy was loaded successfully in my older computer but not in my new computer. That prompted me to buy another copy (DeLuxe) but that did not work either. I'm sure the vendor will issue me a new copy if I return this one which what I intend to do. I have already contacted the MS people and was already issued a service ticket. They were not able to troubleshoot it (on-line) because my PC was in the shop.

Strange phenomenon:  All the unsuccessful loads I made, the program automatically "backtracks" meaning I presume that it was erasing whatever was loaded however, while going thru all the files I found a folder titled "New Folder" in "My Documents" which contained two subfolders named Disc1 and Disc2. When I clicked on these subfolders, I found a whole mesh of files associated with the FSX. I checked the Add/Remove and FSX was not there. so I deleted (wrong move or not) the FSX files in "My Document".

My next move is to return the FSX DeLuxe for a new copy. If that don't work, it has to be a software problem somewhere which I hope to resolve with the aid of the MS on-line tech. By the way I already did defrage, registry cleaner, new account, etc. most of the suggested methods I found on the web.

On one machine (I have 7 and Standard + Deluxe FSX) My 2 standard fsx disks showed no contents and failed to start, I uninstalled all the copying software and such like.  Then when I checked again, full contents and the install went ahead no problems.  When I deleted it and moved it to another machine the 2nd disk did not work.  I found that if you put the disk in and within a minute press ok then it will not work.  You have to wait a few moments and `let nature run its course`, then hit the ok.  Preempt it and you`re goosed!

Contrast that with another machine, no software to speak of on it, uninstalled Norton, put the Deluxe FSX disks in and no problem with either one.  Ok, different machines, different drives etc but I know for a fact the underlying copying software is playing a major part in all of this.  That fact isn`t going to be advertised much by MS, but its there just the same.  Empty disks which mysteriously fill up again after you uninstall copying/partition/backup software tells a story.  Thank god the product is worth the hassle!

I am currently installing fsX and after inserting fsX disk 2 I got an error - error 1305 for some texture file.

Anyway, try pressing alt-tab after it has frozen to see if any warning message has come up between the windows, if there was one try hitting retry or googling the result.

P.S: I hit retry about 10 times then it fixed it.

EDIT: Got another error, cleaned disk and it worked. Uh, I payed $93 USD for this and I get a paper peice of crap? Now there is a huge scratch down the side of it. :(

The moral of the story is keep your disk clean!

Gentlemen:

The end result was that I had a "bum" FSX Deluxe copy. I dug up my FSX copy and installed it and noooo problem. I returned the DeLuxe copy but only got a gift card for the amount. I think I'll keep the standard copy and to heck with the Deluxe.

But thanks for all you inputs.
