two monitors

so- whats the best way to use two monitors for FS series?

left monitor pilot side - right monitor co-pilot side?

one monitor the cockpit and one monitor the spot plane view?

left monitor out the left side of the aircraft and right monitor the cockpit?

I thought about dual monitors for FSX. My 8800 has 2 DVI outputs, but my question is how much of a performance hit would I take if you have 1 running in cockpit and the other in co-pilot view?

There is no CORRECT answer...it all depends on what you want to achieve.

What resolution? The 8800 is more than capable of running 2 x 1600x1200 (or widescreen 2 x 1920x1200)  It might struggle with 2x 30" monitors at 2560x1600 each but the CPU is also a crucial factor in determining performance.

I'm with Bjorn on this one.  I use a 42" Plasma to fly on, with a 17" LCD for my GPS...

Works like a charm.  :D

I've considered it, if I upgrade my video card in the near future.  I currently use my 46 inch LCD in my living room for the computer, but still have my 17 inch monitor sitting around.

I just got a 42" LCD (1920x1080 res) and been pretty happy flying around with it. Stepped up to that from a 24" LCD. Then I started looking at multi-screen set-ups like this ( he is using 4 computers to run 10 screens...also need a copy of FSX on each comp...)






and now I am wondering if going with 3 smaller screens using WIDEVIEW would have been better. For the price I paid for one 42" LCD I could have bought 2 more DELL 2405/7's and had three screens. Would be nice to go with 3x 42" screens, but at $1400ish per screen and me not being made out of money, probably not a good idea to stretch myself out like that for a video game.

Would need to have two computers to do it, one being the gaming computer that actually runs the game and the second one just relaying the video info from the first one via a lan cable, so the second comp could be a pretty mediocre build. I didn't read too much further cause I thought I'd go crazy and order two more 24" screens or God forbid, two more 42" screens and actually do it lol.

Currently just running a  17" screen to the side of my main screen for GPS and radios.

Works like a charm.  :D

<- 17" TFT + 15" Laptop display.

Plus: Saves my main PC some computing cycles and I can do on the laptop whatever I want (mostly listening to music while flying and reading check-lists+charts).

Minus: Takes away some place on my desk.
