help with add ons

Hello, iam new to flight sim and am having trouble getting add ons downloaded, i have gone to simaviation .com and clicked on a download that i want but it loads to my computer but it does not appear on the list of aircraft on the flight sim itself. please tell me how to get a add on to load on the aircraft page.   Thanks
