cannot edit aircraft.cfg files when adding texture

Just got FSX yesterday and got it loaded.  The sim is great, but when I try to add textures and edit the aircraft.cfg file, I get a message that says I cannot change the cfg file.  What's up? How can I get the cfg files to accept the new textures? Any help appreciated!  Could this be a Vista issue?
