Do 2004 repaints work in FSX?

For example: I have the Carenado Mentor in both 2004 and FSX versions.  Can I use 2004 repaint files for the FSX versions?

I might be wrong here but I think it might have to do with the way the textures were made as to weather or not it will work in FSX. I say give it a try it will either work or not work I do not think fsx will be damaged in either case. I know some textures will not show up correctly in FSX but not sure what the differance is. 8-)

absolutely can! check this site. it tells you how to use FS2004 aircraft into FSX

Thanks, but that's not the question. No problem with aircraft - my query is about repaints!

Yes you can , as long you have compressed into DTXbmp 3 at least ,you also can add an alpha channel for shining textures though ,FSX will recognize Bmp dtx3 as dds format aswell, if the txture came in dds format you may have use imagetool or DTXBmp software to discompess it,It can in dds but its a little more complicated..youll have to discompress it, flip it,then  recomppress again into DDS dtx 5 before you flip it upsidedown again

Thanks, but for me that's rocket science. I'd better forget the idea.

It all depends on whether the FSX version is a simple update or a different MDL file. If the textures of both versions use the same file names they should work. The only way to find out is to try it.

PS. There should be no need to change the texture format.

There shoun't you right ,But how you can re-paint a flip image upsidedown? there must be a software just for the working dicetcly into a dds format ,(I only know DTXBmp) you can't repaint with that one,Just create alpha channel

,But Im sure MS will release somthing to make things easier in dds Dtx 5

The textures of FS9 aircraft work fine in FSX without any modification. There's no need to mess around flipping images or anything else.

This is confusing the issue but the current version of DXTBmp can read & save in DDS format which is also the CFS3 native format. It also has a Flip feature (See my shot below). http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm

PS. Alternatively, you can repaint DDS textures in an ordinary paint program by flipping the image before & after editing.

You can use MOST FS9 textures in fsX without a problem. However fsX dosn't support DDS textures, so no, fsX textures won't work in FS9.

Surely you mean that FSX textures in the native DDS format won't work in FS9. That was not the question & this is getting terribly confusing. ::)

To clarify. FS9 textures should work in FSX without any modification. If the texture mapping on the Carenado Mentor has not been changed, repaints for the FS9 version should work on the FSX version.

You Can't Paint with DTXBmp Textures Doug, DTXBmp its to create alpha channel, to compress images into DTX 1, 2,3,4,5 ,OF course you can compress any image into DDS,DTX, BUT you can't PAINT with it You have to discompress any image FIRST comvert into an 24 bits normal image to work on it whether flip it or not (DTXBmp can flip it too) after being discomperss ,you can get this image and re-paint it in Photoshop , Paint Shop Pro or Windows Paint,Then send it back to DTXBmp and put it as It was ,There's no confusing at all..

You Can't Paint with DTXBmp Textures Doug,

I know all that Alex. I never said you can paint in DXTBmp. Not many people know this but Martin Wright created the original version of DXTBmp specially for me when CFS2 was first released. I take no credit for it, I was simply the first one to ask him about the new (at that time) DXT texture format. My point is that I beta tested it for him so have been using it for far longer than most people on this forum & know exactly what it's capable of.

There's no confusing at all..

I'm sure that Hotshot is now even more confused than ever. The simple answer to his original question is that FS9 textures work in FSX without modification. The only way to find out if those Carenado repaints will work is to try them. This would only take a few seconds to confirm either way.

Many thanks, Grumpy, for a simple answer to a simple question. Just what I needed, and was beginning to despair of. Yes, the 2004 paints work absolutely  fine in FSX... :)

I can't get them to work. FS9 textures don't come with a texture.cfg file. And FSX repaints do.
