My game freezes when trying to host a session

Postby briboy2007 » Fri Feb 23, 2007 2:19 pm

When I first installed FSX I could host a session reasonably well. Now everytime I try and host a session my game/PC freezes as soon as someone joins. Example: when the green bar appears at the top of my screen and I am inforrmed that (whosever ID it is) everything just stops. I cannot do anything else until they leave the session, then everything starts working again. I have FSX installed on both my home PC's and this problem is on both of them. I have no problems joining other peoples hosted sessions, it's

Are you going through a router? If so you might have to manually setup some ports (old problem). Or have you tried using FSHost to host your sessions as for some reason this tends to get around some of these woes on older editions of FS (not owning FSX yet 'cos it ain't available here this is a bit of a stab in the dark).

No not going through a router. I just have a straight broadband connection and as I said previously I did not have this problem when I initially installed FSX.

Thanks for your interest though, much appreciated.

I didn't find anyone to help me with this very annoying problem, however I found the solution quite by accident and thought I would share it just in case anyone else gets it.

I had trouble trying to load "Just Flights 2005 Traffic" software. I was getting error message -5001. To cure this I went to their website www.justflight.com and downloaded a small piece of software called "ISClear tool." This eliminates an "InstallShield 7 runtime error" file that can be left on your PC from previous downloads. Having removed this error file I could then install Traffic 2005. The best thing of all though was that the "freeze up" problem I was having when trying to host an on-line session in FSX disappeared.

Thought this info might prove handy for someone.
