Is it necessary that Disc 2 be in the drive for FS10 to function?

No. Only when you're installing FSX will it be necessary. After the installation, you won't need the disc. That's why Microsoft has implemented the activation-key method.

How nice of them. Now I do not need to worry about scratching the disc when I take it out and set it aside while I run others in the drive.

I fooled around a little with FS10 today. I am not sure I like it as much as FS9. I do not like how it goes back to the desktop after I select the aircraft and/or location I want. I really do not like the views options they have given us this time around. That "left wing" and "right wing" vantage point stuff is useless. I like the airplane to be the center of a sphere, the imaginary surface on which I can choose to position my eye in almost any position. FS10 must also have very large files because it takes a very long time for the sceneries to load. The interface for selecting airplane, location, et cetera is like FS9, but to me is difficult to use. Maybe I just have not gotten into it deeply enough to appreciate all the work the Gang from Redmond has put into this new sim. Anybody else have these problems and opinions? I'd like to read 'em...

Well, the view options may not be appealing to you, but they are to me. In my honest opinion, I like the additional view option. I know there are addons capable of such things for FS9, but some people don't have the luxury of spending extra money on a payware addon like ActiveCamera and Walk-n-follow. Even the freeware addons like Recorder can be lacking sometimes.

In the case of the loooooooong loading, that's just a simple case of FSX loading up highly-detailed scenery files since the scenery now supports a resolution level that not even payware addons for FS9 can handle.

Although I do agree with you on the menu. I don't mind the look of the interface and it functions [in fact, I like the functions; you can even zoom in and out on the aircraft preview window]. However, that fact that the menu is not in full-screen mode tends to bug me as it gives some users a false sense that the sim has crashed [even though it hasen't].

Overall, I like FSX over FS9. I like how they improved the terrain [my car addons drive better on them], how they implemented the flat spins [yes, you can flat spin; it has been proven], I love the space feature [hello star wars], and I ESPECIALLY love the bridges because now I can drive on each and every one of them [except the ones made for the trains] compared to FS9's bridges. Of course, there are some bridge addons, but most of them are just for looks and don't really have a function of their own.

I have sooooo much more to learn about this new FS. I wish I didn't have to work so much but then, working supports my insatiable hunger for new sim stuff...
