I hit the default question mark thumbnail, so the FSX prog fetches a pic of the plane up before loading (the one where it spins round n round). Then open PSP, import, screen capture/start having already set it to full screen and right mouse button grab. I hit the right mouse button and the pic opens in PSP, I crop it to the picture part I want. Then it needs to be resized, use image resize, turn any settings off that keep it a uniform size (first two ticks out of the bottom section if memory serves. Set it to 9.031x4.516 and hit ok, it will not look right since its showing currently at 80%, no worries, its full size in use. Save it to desktop as thumbnail.jpg and copy it to your working folder. If FSX is still on, change it to a different plane then back to the current test one, this will read in the data again and show the new thumbnail.

I'm not sure I understand the question. The easiest method for creating a thumbnail for the FSX aircraft selection menu is to take a screenshot of the repaint in FSX. Then save the shot as thumbnail.jpg & paste it into the Texture folder of the repaint.
Thumbnails will display at any size but you can resize the shot to 256 pixel width for convenience. IrfanView is ideal for this job.

Thanks for the reply. What I meant is the angle that the thumbnail picture is taken at. If you look at the thumbnails on the "select aircraft" list, you may notice that they all look from the same viewpoint and zoom level to a certain point on the aircraft. (ex: with the 747, you always see the plane looking at the front, left corner. The only difference between the 747s is the paint job) All I want to do is take a snapshot of my painted plane and match this "default" angle and zoom so it looks like all the others.
Reider: Thanks for the response. If you misunderstand anything about what I am trying to do, you may look above. Unfortunately, I am having trouble understanding what it is that you are trying to say. I'll answer any questions you may have.

I did all mine in the preview pane, not difficult. I wait until its rotated to the position I want, hit the right button on the mouse and it places a snapshot in PSP, I crop it, resize it and save it. Another way is set up PSP to snapshot, go into the flight sim, load the plane at a suitable airport. Use the spot view and move the hat switch around to get the orientation (rear, front, side, 3D view) you want. Further move the hat switch to get the angle from above, then hit the right mouse button or F11 or whatever you set to get the screen grab. Save it as a thumbnail and place it in the folder. I just do it the first way because it seperates my planes from the normal ones by looking at the thumbnails. They are still very easy to spot amongst them all too and look very effective.

Hmm.. Well I'll just have to give it a try. No use being all picky when I can still see what the plane is.
Thanks, Giteen

PSP was merely my example of doing things, not necessarily the best approach. But then again PSP has been around a long long time, lots prefer it to much more expensive packages and its available as a free trial. I had it so I used it, others would use whatever they have. As long as I can see what the plane is it works for me, wether there are better ways or not.
