I seem to recall some talk years ago about a potential release of FS for the last Xbox using a controller (big honkin thing with two sticks and lots of buttons) that was made for some robot fighting game.  Sorry to be so cryptic about it.
Anyway, the idea bounced around for a short while, but the controller never really sold (it was around $200 US I believe), and it was soon decided to back off the idea to port FS over because it was thought that the market would be way to small to make the project profitable.
I don't think you'll see it on Xbox 360 for simular reasons. The average Xbox gamer and the average simmer just are not seen by MS to be in the same target market.  A shame. I to wouldn't mind seeing it done either.  Oh well, what can I say?  For once MS is probbably right.

I gotta say Paz, You and I are pretty much in agreement on this one.  I'd even describe myself has a former PC to console player myself. I still check the PC section for games, but for every one I find that I want to play (a rare event), I find many more for my Playstation and Xbox consoles.
Bout the only newer games I play on PC besides FS are pretty much the Elder Scrolls series and Microsoft Train Sim.  There are a few others, but mostly I play the older games you've mentioned. Like Sim City  for example. love that game.
Even then, if it's available for console, I probbably bought it for that before I buy it for PC. That would be the case for Morrowind.  Mainly just for the reason that you know it'll work on a console. If I do buy it for PC, it's ussually just so I can open up the games guts and mess with the games files to tweak the game to suit my tastes.
Your right about the narrowing down of the types of games available. I'm finding less and less that I'm interested in nowadays.  Even game series that I used to be in love with, like Gran Turismo, are going in directions that just don't  hold my interest anymore.
I used to buy Playstation has soon as it would come out, just so I could play Gran Turismo.  Currently I have no plans to buy PS3 which marks the first console in at least a decade that I haven't gotten my hands on within the first week of release.  At least Xbox360 has stuff I play on it.  Last I heard PS3 had nothing I wanted, and there is talk in the PS3 circles that when the next GT comes out, it may be in a format where I would have to buy all the cars and tracks for it online. Forget that.  They might've changed their minds at sony, but I don't even pay attention to them anymore to know wether they have or not.
At any rate, gotta get to bed.  Just had to post my agreement.

Most PC's are to slow too run FSX decently, unless you spend a couple grand on a new machine or hundreds on upgrades. My point was not saying Microsoft should bring the full PC version of FSX to 360, but I'm sure something along the lines of FS2002 would run just fine, and quite honestly, that was the last flight sim I was able to run without any major problems despite upgrading to a newer machine. I guess I just find what little time I have for gaming to be better implemented playing on a machine which is sure to play a game right out of the box (consoles) as opposed to a PC game which I could likely spend a weekend unsuccessfully troubleshooting and tweaking and still end up not being able to experience the game the way it was intended.

I'm not upset that I paid $50-$60 for the FSX program, I'm sure someday I'll have a setup it will run on, I just don't have that right now apparently.
I think I may have read or heard somewhere that Microsoft is actually trying to standardize PC game programs through Vista, I'm not sure on the details but maybe this will cut down on some of the problems associated with PC gaming, and that is a good thing!  8-)

Simming has never been a "plug in the cartridge and play" thing. There never has been a "standard" for how much computing power you'll need.

Even the now "old" FS2004 can push a brand new, $4000 dollar computer to its limits; if you fly very complex models with high-resolution textures; have enough AI taffic to crowd every gate at major airports; have detailed mesh and scenery installed. So really, it can be said that most people (and their computers) still haven't outgrown FS2004.

Simming is also a dymanic hobby. You can have a blast with a joystick and one monitor; or use a yoke/pedals/multi-monitor set-up; or build an entire "simpit" that requires SEVERAL computers. You can't really say you've replaced that type of "gaming" with a console. It's apples and oranges.

Even if you're just a joystick/single-monitor simmer... you can develope a complete hobby just around designing/building planes and scenery.. even custom gauges and any number of add-ons. There's no limit.

Just think of FSX as the continuation of it all. It pushes the horizon and challenges and fun. In the next few years,  a customized FSX setup and a computer capable of handling it will be something truly amazing... an experience that you'd never get from a console...

I have to agree with Brett on this one. Game consoles might be able to aleviate some of the disappointments that FSX has; but at the same time, game consoles have a drawback of their own.

If FSX were to ever be created for the X360:

1. You will have to pay $50 per year just for the online membership for XBox Live, and that's in addition to the amount you're already paying for the service provider that allows you internet access. And don't forget, not everyone is willing to spend a lot of money on a broadband connection [ask Fozzer]. :-/

2. You have to figure out how to transfer all of the addons from a PC to a console as well as figure out how to share it with the XBox Live community. Not only that, there are a great number of PC-based addon websites [ie: flightsim, avsim, etc.] that may or may not work well with XBox Live. However, it would be a good idea to have a single massive XBox Live server where everyone can post their addons and download from; but such a server could cost more due to the near-infinite number of addons that are out there already. :question

3. There are a bunch a immature people in XBox Live. Can you imagine how the forums would be? Even the psychiatric ward of SimV wouldn't be able to handle it. :o

My verdict: I'll stick with the PC.

1. The flight sim community already has well-established, pc-based websites.

2. Most of us have already gotten use to the PC anyways. Switching to a console would like culture shock [picture yourself moving out of a big city to a suburban area - big difference]. :-?

3. We are well-mannered and mature, even though most of us are like at least 15 years old. ;)

;D ;D ;D

I purchased  FSX as soon as it appeared in the shops. Got very quickly disappointed with its performance on my machine. Left it on my hard drive, (I cant be arsed with uninstalling it, and having to ask Uncle Bill's permission if I want to re-install it again).... :(...!

So there it lies, in a dark corner of my hard drive, whilst I continue to have loads of daily fun and frolics with my lovely old FS 2004...Wound up to the max... :-*...!

I'm in no particular hurry to mess about with FSX until the day comes when I feel like upgrading everything I have got at present....to cope with it... :o...!

So I occasionally visit the FSX Forum purely out of curiosity....
...perhaps once a week.... ::)...!

It would be interesting to see a breakdown chart %wise of all the members by age in say ten year brackets. I myself have been addicted to airplanes since around five years old. Just turned 70ys and still at it.   ;)

This is the beauty of PC based simming and places like SimV. There's a combination of hardware, software, add-ons, forum topics, forum personalities, age groups, add-on developement, experience sharing, repainting, repainting requests, airplanes, airplane request, hardware advice, real-world re-enactments, real-world photos, screen shots, airplane tweaking, reality pursuit, fantasy pursuit, friends... and yes, even debate.. for everyone and every budget and every level of dedication.

I can't wait to see what it will be like when
