Just how good is the scenery?

Posted: Wed Feb 21, 2007 11:19 pmJust how much better is the scenery in FS10 than in FS2004? I have the two-DVD set coming from FSGenesis covering all of North America. It's in 9.6-mt resolution.  Will I be amazed?

Posted: Thu Feb 22, 2007 2:47 pmIf your PC needs two minutes to boot and if you've got 62 background processes (I've got 21 - 18 when simming), you're doing something fundamentally wrong.
Catch up on all the PC tweaking stuff in here and on the internet, optimize your PC and then go complain about a slow PC.
About the scenery: The only thing you need for FSX is a landclass. Nothing more. Why order some extra mesh if FSX's default one is accurate enough? As far as I know, it displays the USA in 38.8m resolution, which is already extremely good.
Spending money on an add-on mesh which improves little to nothing is plain stupid.
- Edit: Plus, it *will* slow down you FSX, since it has to divert CPU power to two meshes instead of one.

Posted: Thu Feb 22, 2007 3:56 pmFirst, the sim automatically locates the highest res mesh files (based on the slider level set in FSX) and will load them and not the matching low res, at all.

Ever heard of buffer meshes?
Those things will smooth the transitions of the high-res mesh to low-res mesh and give a less detailed, yet better representation of distant mountains & peaks in the distance.
Since FSX has a 76m mesh by default, those buffer meshes are not really necessary anymore.

Posted: Fri Feb 23, 2007 2:35 amI need all those extra things, miltest?!! Yikes, he said. It already takes my computer over 2-1/2 minutes to boot; I have 62 processes running in the background. If I add all that stuff, I can go wash the dishes and maybe it will be ready when I get done? I just want a higher level of accuracy in the scenery; I am not overly concerned about seeing the dynamic distressed hikers in the snow on Mt. Hood.
Oh, those pics that were put up by Arnaage are very good. I like the detail in the mountains in the background. That's kind of what I'm looking to get in my scenery/mesh/landclass/hot pastrami sandwich...

Posted: Sat Feb 24, 2007 9:41 amThe scenery is lightyears ahead of fs9. However, some landclass is messed up, displaying way to much Desert in all countries. A few mods (Payware and freeware) fix this.
Here are some shots of default fsX. (ex. planes)
I am not sure of the accuracy of the default USA mesh. I think it's 19 metres, but not sure.... fsG is coming out with even more accurate fsX mesh though...
