No, no and no. Don't buy it. Waste of money - this is the only point of view you will find :D

FSX was designed and opmitized for the Vista system, even though I don't have Vista, I would imagine that it would increase the whole deal dramatically.

The answer is yes, and no.
quite simply, Vista will help FSX, but not right now.
u see, the graphics card drivers out from nVIDIA and ATI may work with vista, but lets just say they're not as good as they can be.

I'd like to know if you can lean Vista down to the same level of a leaned down Windows XP.
Probably not.

Okay, so I make it simple:
Don't buy Vista yet, Alex, it's not worth it.

i installed vista just the other day
the frame rates did improve over XP but only by a slim margin of about 4 or 5 FPS
thans really not even measurable in the grand scheme of things. Im interested in seeing what the DirectX 10 drivers do to things when they come out.
Im using the following settings for FSX... (Caps indicates whats on my setting screens)
GRAPHICS: CUSTOM
DEVICE: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX.0
TARGET FRAME RATE: UNLIMITED
FULL SCREEN RESOLUTION: 1152X864X32

MY SYSTEM:
Windows Vista Home Edition
EVGA NVIDIA nForce 680i intel motherboard
EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB video card
Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.4 GHz
2 gigs of 240pin SDRAM
Frame rates I observe regularly
Dallas Fort Worth = 14 FPS average
New York = 11- 13 FPS average
Tokyo executive mission = 7-9 fps average (worst- i suspect because of tons of road traffic)
everywhere else = varies, but usually 17 fps minimum up to about 25 fps max average about 20 fps

Alex, my old Chum....

I can't figure out why you are spending so much time getting upset and disappointed with your poor FSX performance, when you know just how lovely your FS9 runs with
everything maxed!...

I tried my FSX, and put it back in my drawer the day after I bought it...
Now having unbelievable daily fun with my FS9... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

i intended to wait until summer some time or at least until updates for vista and better support start coming out before i actually got my own copy of vista.
sad thing is my wife purchased a copy for me the other day as an early valentines day gift.
what was i to do but smile, say thanks and install it? so much for me waiting.
Vista is ok... nothing that really will blow anyones skirt up.
FSX really has performance issues even on the latest high end machines especially when over dense scenery. except for a few eye candy options... FS9 is just as good ;)

Have you thought that your lovely Wifey may be well aware of your feeble, inadequate PC System, and gave you a copy of FSX, knowing that there was no possibility whatsoever of playing it, because you forgot to get her a card, and a nice bunch of flowers for Valentine's Day...
...am I right, or am I right...

...?
Tee-Hee...

I've been running Vista in it's various test releases and the final...it's improved a lot since beta, I must say.
I'm using FSX on Vista with a 256MB nVidia 7600GT. With a few of the more advanced settings off, I get a nice 40fps (my limit). Here's a curious thing though: when I switch on antialiasing, it all goes to pot. Very, very jerky, and straight down to <7fps. I reckon there must be something seriously broken in the nVidia drivers at the moment. Roll on new version!
As for deciding whether to get Vista, definitely wait. After a few months there will be loads more aircraft available, a patch for FSX (hopefully!), new (fixed) graphics drivers and some shiny new DirectX10 graphics cards! Word on the street is that the new ATI cards, due in March, will be better than the current nVidia 8800 series...so I'm waiting on those at the moment. Oh, and 2GB RAM is my minimum for Vista + FSX.
