I was told to make straight in for runway 33L at Bradley Intl yesterday. Right after I had finished lining up, a 737-800 followed by an Airbus A319 flew right in front of me. The 737 was cleared to land and the airbus and I were forced to go around. Does anybody know what caused this?

Now forgive me if I`m wrong but I read the situation as, there is a left base and a right base for example, fly straight in does not give you the required permission to land (though it sounds like it) but instead is telling you to approach in the straight ahead position in line with the runway rather than say approach base left/right.  You then still have to await permission to land, I have used this procedure every time.  Sometimes permission is granted straightaway and sometimes you go in a holding pattern while say a jet lands-higher priority I guess.

Thats my take on it anyway, and so far its worked out aok with no problems.  The instruction is a tad misleading though, to say the least.  Maybe when its not so busy you go straight ahead position when told (usually smaller airfields/airports), await permission to land, then another plane comes into range and asks permission to land, at this point you shouldn`t be on `finals` so maybe the other plane is higher priority and gets to land before you.

Next time you`re in this position, take it as being on hold and wait  to see, you will be given permission.  On a side track now, I was on hold the other night and did four loops of about 8 nm each whilst others including the same type of planes as me were allowed in.  My height, speed and setup were correct so eventually I said sod it and went in anyway.  I then got told to clear the runway because I did not yet have permission to land, I still went in-idiots!
