you should turn on light bloom flight ace.  its worth the drop in fps.  try it during a dusk, night or dawn landing and see!

The light bloom is for sure magnificient, definitely one of the best visual improvements of this new FS, but the drop in FPS can become very incomfortable over large cities...
My guess is that for now, it is better NOT to get used to it, so that it's easier to live without it  :D

However, Flight Ace, I am very surprised that you can turn the scenery complexity at max over cities like Seattle. Those highly detailled skycrappers just kill my 6800 GT everytime, and while they are on the screen I can hardly maintain the FPS at 7 only... on the best case, because sometimes it even drop down to 4...

This is why I keep my autogen at max, but I set the scenery complexity only to sparse, or normal sometimes...

But that's good. If a 7800 like yours can handle this scenery as well as that, then a 8800 should do even better. I can't wait to have my next PC :)

Also has anyone any factual information as to whether Vista will or will not provide an operational improvement to FSX when loaded on a system without DX10 and a DX10 compatible graphics card?

There will be very little to none. Period.

At the moment, Vista is up to 5% slower than XP when it comes to games. This is largely due to the not that good Vista compatible drivers for all your hardware, but even with better drivers, there won't be much gain in speed.

:)Daube, I just took a flight from the Boeing airfield at low level in a P51 that took me directly over Seattle.  I flew at low level in slow flight with partial flaps and extended gear. My flight took me through and between the cargo ships at the docks and encountered near misses with the many seagulls flying around. After passing by the last cargo ship I applied full throttle, raised the gear, and entered into a right climbing turn directly over the city

Heritec, Thanks for the tip reference Vista and FSX. I am going to stay with XP for the time being. One would think however, that since Microsoft designed FSX around Vista that there would be a better fit with Vista versus XP after drivers are updated accordingly. :-/

Well, only time can tell.

Maybe, after a few driver updates, Vista's performance will be better than XP's, but for the time being a Vista upgrade is, in my eyes, a waste of hard disk space (15GB for an OS!).

I would say that yes, after we get some "serious" drivers from our belowed graphic cards companies, we can begin to expect some things from Vista.
For example, this virtual memory on USB key, that seems very interesting, and I would like to see more fedback about that.
