Dual Monitor Problem with Vista/FSX-Fix here

Postby reider » Wed Jan 31, 2007 10:15 pm

If anyone is suffering the the dual monitor problem in Vista with FSX, where the freeflight settings for example show on both but then go just black and/or black and white flashing then there is hope......  It looks like a simple screen resolution problem between Vista and NVidia, since at least on my setup the resolutions offered are different.  Even selecting 1024 X 768 doesn`t fix it, seems a mishmash somewhere!   Nor do any of the present updated drivers help, fear not though, took a while but heres a simple fix for now that appears to work.

(1) Start FSX
(2) Freeflight and set up as you wish, daylight puhleese!  We need to see if its fixed......
(3) Press ` Alt + Enter` to go into windowed mode
(4) I know its working, please don`t play yet......
(5) Maximise the window
(6) Press `Alt + Enter` to go into full screen mode
(7) Now drag your caboodle to the other monitor
(8) Did you see (1) ???  Go play, after sending the kids out, kicking out the dog and then realising you have neither!!!  ;D

One drawback with the fix is the messing about when changing settings or planning a trip whilst enroute.  As it returns to the screen, the flashing starts again and you have to rejig it for the fix.

Experiment with this fix, to make changes, then go back to full screen after the heat dies down.  In the main monitor screen bring up say the Garmin 500 and the Radio Stack.  But right click on each in turn and select `unlock from screen` or whatever it says.  They will appear with a light blue border around. Doesn`t look as effective as the normal version, but the advantage is you don`t need full screen to use them on the second monitor......  I use this way for continuity at those moments you need to concentrate but still see whats happening, without the flashing and setting up again after changes.  Has its uses, have a play and see.......

Got some good news on the subject, though I suspected the problem was the video card drivers, its very akin to a problem like that which has been going on for some years, its actually Vista.  It would seem the problem is being worked on as we speak (type?).  Phil, from Redmond posted this in another forum.......

All,

There is a known bug in Vista wrt multimon and fullscreen operations. Multimon should work as long as no monitor is in fullscreen mode.

It is being worked on, Aces has asked for a QFE for it as well as inclusion in SP1. I cant promise the QFE yet but as soon as we know we will update the community.

Phil
