so here is the symptoms,  ran fsx on old rig,  basically pent 4 3gig 1 gig ddr400 ram nvidia gforce 5500, average 15-20 fps on
medium settings.   Bought wife new comp for birthday,  intel core 2 1.8g windows vista, 2 gig ddr 800 ram intel media accelorator

so on this new 900 rig fsx runs like crap settings are minimul.....   so not sure how the whole dual core works other than two channels..... stuck somewhere between processor not big enough or need video card....  the game itself runs steady on the new comp but with much lower settings..... so I am thinking the processor is fine, but that on board graphics are the problem, even though it says up to 256mb shard video mem, I also get a promp telling me windows has turned off hardware acceleration for when I load fsx.  So now that I have babbled on and confused you,  My question I guess is, is the processor big enough, should i steal wifes ram for old comp, or steal my vid card for hers, or should I just accept the fact that Mr. Gates and all of his freinds will never remove their hands from my pockets.... I will continually get frustrated, and buy bigger machines and mod them and drive my lovely wife nuts with all the money I spend on that drug we call  FS

from what I have read about windows vista i would say that the problem is that you are running a low end integrated graphics system that from my research into windows vista is almost too low end to run windows vista properly . I would suggest a better video card preferably a pci express dual video card

In reference to wifes's comp for me,,,,, Acctually optical died on wife's comp, family decision new comp for her, so we buy it,  quote from wife "Honey, why don't you put your FS on my comp, and give your comp to junior."  Sure dear that would be okay....

Well ends up bought new gpu for new computor,( bfg gforce 7600 gt) that whole windows expieriance score that vista does, dropped.... Fsx turned out to be even crappier.  and yes I had the vista drivers.....

Kornn gets grouchy, wife gets even grouchier, cause it will be months before she gets all of the drivers for her toys like printer, Digital cam and cam corder....

Mrs. Kornn packs up new gateway and goes back to place of purchase and politely( or that is what she says) gets her money back..

Comes home sits in front of old trusty comp and goes to reputable online geek store..
purchases blazing new optical drive for old comp, turns to me and says honey, what would you
need to build a machine to play FSX....

Evryone is now happy, wife will get new optical, husbands builds mid level SLI machine with room for improvement, son still gets dads old comp.

Moral of story, thou shall never buy another bundled retail machine, when one can build better machine and repair another for around 300 bucks cheaper.

Thank all you kind people for your help and response....

That's where I'm stuck. I just got a new notebook with Vista. We don't have any options for high speed internet around here because we live too far out in the boonies but we get good cell phone reception so I tried to install wireless on the new notebook. Found out that they don't have drivers for Vista yet so I have to wait a few weeks before I can get anything better than my 56k (usually only runs around 45k) dialup.
