ok. first off download a program to open .zip files. i recomend WinRar because it can compress files better but you can also download WinZip. (http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10614813.html?tag=lst-0-1 - http://www.download.com/WinZip/3000-2250_4-10605855.html?tag=lst-0-1)

now you download your file. you can download either repaints or full aircrafts. both are installed differently.

with repaints you download the file (http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=jets&file=NW73X.zip and unzip the archive. usually there is a readme. in the readme it will have a really long code like this.

Code: Select all
[fltsim.X]
title=Boeing 737-800 Northwest Airlines
sim=Boeing737-800
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=nortwest
kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref
atc_id=N5176
atc_airline=Northwest
atc_flight_number=N578
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="737-800"
ui_variation="Northwest Airlines"
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
ui_createdby="Lee Tennant"
description="Boeing 737-800 Northwest Airlines"

all you have to do is put the texture folder into the aircrafts folder and add the code into the aircraft.cfg file. to do this you right click the .cfg file and click open with>notepad. then copy and paste the code above right after the last entry with fltsim.X (X stand for any number) now the X in the code you just added has to be the next number in sequence (ex. if the entry before says [fltsim.7] you would make the X an 8. then you just save the file and select the aircraft in free flight.

now for original planes it is alot easier. all you do is download the file, (http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb2.cgi?section=jets&file=Boeing777-300FSX.zip) unzip the folder and put the folder in your aircraft folder.

hope i helped  :)

Nearly every addon aircraft will have a 'readme' file. READ IT! If you follow each step acurately, you should have no problems and one you are familier with the file layouts in FSX then you'll be doing it in seconds!

Hey Flyboy,
You need Joseph Stearn's  "Addit Pro"  to install aircraft, panels, sceneries, everything. Its the best there is, and simple to manage, anybody can do it.  Another great thing about it is you can download and install that program, and use it for 30 days, if you like it and are happy with it, you register it on line, pay for it, its under $30.00.  Its simply fantastic.   Go to:

www.byteforge.com/products/ap_fsx/download/upgrade.htm

Good luck :)

John

All of the other posts to this question are great but I think they are missing the one all important stepNEVER DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL DIRECTLY INTO ANY FS FOLDER Doing so can create huge problems which is why I for one do not use ADDON MANAGER type programs as most of them install directly into FS and do not give you a option to use a different folder.
 Granted some of the addon manager programs are great but I like to know what files and where the files are going to. I have severll folders outside of FS for downlaoding  files to and move them to where I want them and not where some program decides to put them without telling me.

But this is MY opinion only. 8-)
