Consistant Studder

Gah, this problem has finally gotten inside of me, and now I can't stand it.    In flight, no matter when...and always, there is a slight studder every few seconds.   Whenever I'm busy doing something: takeoff, landing, etc, I don't notice it, but in the main flight, it gets very bothersome.

It's very quick, but everything stops, the propeller, the plane, scenery, etc, and then resumes as normal.  But that spurt is very noticeable every 3 seconds, as it jerks the camera around, and is annoying for obvious reasons.

Is this just me, or is this a common issue?  If not, what could be causing it, I assume my HD space wouldn't help, but I can't see it actually hurting it?

Any help is appreciated.  :-/

The stutter is most likely caused by the textures being loaded from your HD into your VRAM, there is a slight pause to trasnfer and load them. There are various ways you may rememdie thia, firstly look through the this http://fsxmission.com/live/modules.php? ... how=tweaks from FSX FAQ, look in the CFG tweaks section and use them, especially the BufferPool it really reduces stuttering. The FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION can also help as it can define how quickly a frame is loaded and put up, but the faster it is you'll start getting some blurries. Also some say setting TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT in the cfg to 400 helps as it allows the textures to load faster, although I suggest you do some of your own research on that one.

Thanks, maybe it's just me then, not sure.  I checked through all of these, and everyone I found I already have in the .cfg  :-X
Might just try to swap it onto the new hd

Instead of 400 for the TEXTURE_BANDWITH_MULT, try 80 only... and set the texturemaxload (and NOT the texture_max_load) to the appropriate value...what was it... 8 or something ? Arf, I discussed that with another member, based on Nick_N's advises...

...Daube, not sure how to say this, so I'll let a smiley do it for me...   :-* :-* :-*

Thank you for finding this again, I changed the bandwith from 400 to 80, and it worked, couldn't find a studder unless I looked really hard in this last flight.   They are few and far between now, and unnoticeable.  ;D

You're welcome :)
I'm very glad those discussions with miltestpilot were not usefull only for me ;)

I got my information from NickN.

FSX is different from FS9. In FS9 most video adapters could work with the maximum value (400) for the texture bandwidth multiplier because the average texture size was only about 50kb. In FSX the average texture size is more like 500-650kb and therefore the value must be carefully set based on both the video card and how high the sliders are set.

Even 512 cards such as 7900 series with sliders set high may struggle with that number being high. If one is willing to drop the sliders the value can be raised. Those who are running the newer x1950's, 7950's and especially a 768mb 8800's can most likely max the value.

A balance between the sliders, the buffer pools, the texture bandwidth, the autogen cfg line tweaks and the fiber frame along with not setting the frame lock too high is how to properly calibrate FSX for sharpness and smooth flight.

There is also an issue with the frame counter as well. I was told it can read off by as much as 5 frames so if you are seeing 10, its actually about 15 and therefore setting a frame lock of 18-22 works fine. Only the x1950's and the 8800's have the ability to set higher without loss to the ground sharpness and other areas, assuming autogen and scenery is being run high.
