Question ,How to turn the Knobs?

Postby alrot » Sun Jan 21, 2007 5:47 pm

I find very difficult to handle the knobs to set the VORs or ILS freq, without mention another question where is the Nav1&2 window & knob in the airbus model?

Image

Its very dificult to set the first numbers by a mouse, In FS9 you just had to put the poiter of the mouse right in the Number dial was easier only the 7474&737 kept this way

But still, I find very dificult to set manualy (by the mouse with scroll)adjust the dial with these knobsIs there another way? a key to add first number like 110 more and less ,and second .70more and less without manipulating the mouse over this knobs??Also Heading, altitude, speed, vertical speed etc ,..Its so dificult

Did you try putting the mouse pointer directly on the number readout?  Sometimes I find it difficult which part of the knob or readout increases the number and decreases it, but usually you should be able to find where the "hotspots" are. ;)

The default  A321 is particularly bad when it comes to defining the "click" spots on the various gauges.

I noticed last night, in the VC, that the radio tuning "knob" does not work for the "units" of frequency.
It does work for the "decimal" portion, but since a roll-over of the decimal readout does not increment
the units, I have to say it's "broken".

One solution to your problem is to change the size of the "click" spot areas in the A321 gauge. That
is something that I determined I was going to do after last nights flight!

You would need to "de-cab" the file into a folder, then go into the various XML files in question and
locate the mouuse click specifications....usually at the end of each XML gauge listing.  You can then
increase the size or even move the "click" spot areas, say from the knob up to the readout.

If you have any experience in programming, it's very easy to do.

Other than that, there's not alot you can do. I know that in the VC's, I have to "freeze" my
TrackIR4 Pro whenever I wish to adjust a control.

I really can't believe Aces ever "flew" some of the default planes or used them in the way any
normal user would. Their defaults leave a LOT to be desired!

The A321 hotspots are very tiny...some only 6-9 pixels wide. They do not extend up to
the readouts. They are restricted to the areas around the knobs. In the 2D cockpit, it
isn't too terribly difficult to "grab" on to a hotspot but in the VC it is almost impossible
due to the skewing and scrunching that takes place.

I've just spent the last couple of hours totally re-doing the hotspots for tuning the NAV radios
and setting the autopilot variables.  I opened up the hotspot areas to extend from the top
of the display downward and spit the INCR/DEC down the middle of the display width.
If the control had a push/pull function, I created that area, full width, from the middle of
the knob down to the just above any buttons elow the knob.

I can now change/select the functions while in the VC without having to "freeze" my
TrackIR "head".

Seems to be a case of "looksgood on paper" but totally unsuitable in practice.
