I have bad news...Do not uninstall FSX more than once as the DVD key can only be used 2 times before you must rebuy a key online!!!!!!!!!! :exclamation :-[ So addon creators better be careful that their add-ons work 100% or a lot of people will have to rebuy FSX :exclamation

You can install/reinstall 1,000 times on the same computer..

Kinda like Windows itself..

Here is my translation of that mumbo jumbo:

You can use the same key on two different installs at the same time, say on your laptop and desktop, but if you went to install it on a friends PC it wont work unless you uninstall it from one of your computers. You can install it many times with the one key, just not more than two separate installs at once.

Just to back up most Wingo's comment above (however, the last section of the last sentence of his statement is incorrect - see below) , here's a section from the MS website:

Q4: How many times can I activate the product?

A4: There is no limit to the number of times that you can activate the software product on the same computer. For example, you can remove and re-install or re-activate the product any number of times. An additional activation is provided so that you can remove and re-install the product on the same computer or on a different computer. See the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) for more information. The EULA is located in the following folder:
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X
To run Flight Simulator X on two or more computers, purchase additional copies of the product. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/fligh ... aspx#buyit

To me that paper clip reads as though you have 'Obtained' a copy of FSX somehow free (illegaly or not) and do not have an activation key, thus or course you would have to purchase a key.

I brought my copy of FSX second hand so have used up the two times I can activate it and will just have to call Microsoft to activate it when I build myself a new PC. If you have legitimally purchased a copy you should be able to install it as many times as you like, you may just have to call Microsoft each time. There is no way that a piece of software will limit how often you upgrade your own PC.

I think the point here is; when is an upgrade regarded as a new PC? I believe the same conditions apply to WinXP.

To be fair, I think on MS's part they have probably thought quite logically. They only want people to install it on one machine, and over the 2-3 year life of the product, before FX11 will inevitably come out, they suspect the average user will probably upgrade to a new PC once in that time.

I know it's tough, you can't have it installed on two systems at once, but then neither can someone going against the terms of the EULA... :)

I understood the original idea was to be able to install it on two separate machines (for example: desktop PC & laptop) but only use one at any time. That's how I interpret the underlined conditions on Ravang's image.

If you have FSX activated and somehow mess up your installationa and need to re-install.. You can do that 1,000 times; so long as it's the same computer.

Now if it's for something like a HDD failure (or complete re-format) you'll need to activate it again.. and I've been led to believe Microsoft will allow for such things.

I had a HDD melt-down and had to re-activate.. And obviously, when DX10/Visat are out, I'll be building a new machine, which will require a third activation. From what I've read.. it will require an explanation, but I will be able to do it.. no charge for another license/activation.

Yeah, and if it doesnt allow to re register then just call the support center and they can fix it by resetting it or something along those lines from what i have understood.

Microsofts website interprets that quite differently...(?)

Again, from the Microsoft, two questions down from the previous:

Q6: Can I install the product on more than one computer?

A6: You can install and use one copy of the software product on the licensed device. The licensed device is the device for which you have accepted the license agreement. You can remove the product and then install the product on another computer. However, you cannot share the license between two or more computers. See the End User License Agreement (EULA), for more information.

To purchase additional copies of Flight Simulator X, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/fligh ... aspx#buyit

So basically, according to the EULA you may only install on one system at a time, although you can remove it and then install on one other system. I've been checking - having just bought a fairly decent laptop I was going to have a giggle and see what FSX made of it. Instead I shall be installing the recently uninstall FS9! ;D
