FS2002 vs. FSX, Can I Still???

Hello everyone!  Been a year or two since I posted a question on here.  First off these are pretty simple questions.  I upgraded from FS2002 to FSX and have found many more similarities to it than FS2004.  Ok my first question..

1.  Can I still, when I'm flying an outside view, place my GPS or other instrument outside of the main window?

2.  Can I still, setup my spot plane?

3.  Is there a way to make the throttle on the keyboard not as sensitive?  When I press F2 twice it's like the plane wants to rocket forward.

4.  I have a pretty advanced computer I'm running FSX on.  However it still wants to jerk around.  I'm wondering what the best setting is to where I'm still getting the boat, car, and airport traffic as well as other aircraft and still get smooth gameplay.  My computer specs are: NVIDIA GeFORCE 7300 LE, 2.80GHz, 3.25GB or RAM.  I would think with a multimedia machine like this I could get better frame rates.  What do you suggest I do to obtain smoother gameplay without taking away the amazing senery????

5.  One more question.  And this has to do with the spot plane again.  In FS2002 I used to press 5 in the numpad and the camera would rotate above the aircraft.  Can I do this still in FSX?

Thank you very very much all who can help.

Hi Mike.. LTNS..

1. Yes.. shift+3 brings up a re-sizable GPS (or any of the panels) no matter which, outside view you're using.

2. Not only can you use it.. there are now several outside view opitions (which you can customize in the aircraft.cfg file (I put on in the passenger cabin of the KingAir so I could go sit as a pax, in flight)).

3. Yes.. there are key assignments for quick and incremental throttle increase/decrease (check the key assignments).

4. Start by minimizing every setting then experiment, adding first the things that are important to you..  But you're fighting an uphill battle with that v-card.. There are a dozen posts on upgrading advice.

5. I'm not sure how it was in FS2002 (I always used the hat switch on the yoke for views), but I think it's all very similar. I looked at assignments and there are lots for views.

Brett,
I tried what you said and I don't think I said it correctly.  In FS2002 you could place your GPS and other instruments outside of the main window.  I think you could do this in FS2004 also.  I can't find a way to do it here.  I don't know if its undocking or what.

I agreed with one of the users on the forum that FSX is very damanding.  Even at low textures.  If I want to put hangers up on say KANE I have to really up the textures.  Not even at Medium High can I get hangers.  Never had this with FS2002 obviously.

And did I read somewhere DX10 is out????

It's funny, the demo version worked better and smoother than the full version of FSX..

I just with Microsoft could keep some things consistant within MSFS.  Such as the older GPS and the windowing.  Yes it's not as advanced as the GARMIN but it sure was easy to use.  Also you could place it anywhere on your screen when your flying outside view.

So is it best to just wait till Vista comes out and see what that and Direct X 10 does to improve gameplay?

Best to wait before getting a new system. Yes.

No I wasn't going to buy a new system.  Just see what kind of upgrade I would need to make FSX run better. I think I have the right kind of hardware.  Just not the right software and drivers.  You sure can hand it to Microsoft for releasing a game BEFORE the required drivers and software are released..
