Add On Textures

Postby Bubblehead » Tue Nov 07, 2006 1:52 pm

I downloaded a couple of textures for FSX. Do I just add it on to the aircraft texture folder? Then what? Will that automatically show in the fltsim list in the aircraft config? In other words how do I add and change the texture to an existing FSX aircraft?

Thanks.

When you downloaded the texture it should have come with instructions for installing in the 'readme' text file. Here is an example of the procedure from one of the Civil Jet files..

Installation:

1. Unzip the file A321SAS.ZIP to a temporary directory.

2. Go to the folder "...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Airbus_A321".

3. Make a copy of the default folder "Texture" within the Airbus_A321 folder and paste it into the Airbus_A321 folder.

4. Rename the copied folder as "Texture.SAS".

5. Copy and paste all contents of the unzipped A321SAS.ZIP to the folder "Texture.SAS".
You will get a question if you want to replace the older files with newer ones. Click YES.

6. Open the file "aircraft.cfg" which is also located in the Airbus_A321 folder with Notepad.

7. Copy and paste the following lines under the last entry in the file "aircraft.cfg", which begins with "[fltsim.3]" and ends before the section which begins with "[General]" and rename the line "[fltsim.XX]" with "[fltsim.4]".

NOTICE: The last entry should be "[fltsim.3]" in "aircraft.cfg" if you not already have added another repaint. If this should be the case, you have to change "[fltsim.XX]" with the next following number.

Keni's instructions sound good but I have my doubts as to their accuracy.

I would suggest copying out a texture.numbered folder, because in FSX -- unlike in FS9 -- the root texture folder -- which is simply named: texture -- contains many common files which would only be redundant to duplicate again.

But, as always: "Your call, captain."

Wow, didn't know that about the root texture. Lesson learned. Haven't gotten around to downloading any textures myself yet, was just going on FS9 experience.

TY, a lesson learned. ;D
