Im deff not one to accuse. But yes , im starting to think  that this was a huge crock. If there were honestly a beta floating out there, it would be at a torrent site or something. But hey its 19th of aug, we have not much time before the release. im ok with out.lol. ill enjoy fs9 for what its worth and begin a plan to bring in the next best thing. ((((( so long fs9 ))))) you will be missed.lol.

It would be a closed beta not available anywhere else.

I was a bit wary of this "public beta"  but it may be legit.

A few threads below (checking the guy the checks us out) is a link to one of the ACES team member's blog site, and an interesting post:

Fast Forward

and the relevant paragraph:
...and then I woke up and it was August! How did that happen? Actually I think it has to do with being very busy. It's definitely put the blogging on the back burner but decided to kill some time waiting for the Flight Simulato X demo to finish downloading. Or was it the beta? I never know--it's so confusing.

Actually it's all the hub-bub that made want to write. It's quite funny watching people's reactions to the near simultaneous release of the first-even Flight Simulator trial demo and the first-ever public beta.

(Emphasis added).

So there may be something to the "public beta" matter.

what I've read is that the beta is reserved to fileplanet subscribers only.... and to be a fileplanetsubscriber you have to pay. hence my conclusion: you have to pay for the beta...

I thought that looking a that link would clarify things...

what do we know:
-from tdragger, FSX develloper, is that there wil be a beta.
-from a link we had from Tdragger, FSX develloper, the beta will be avail. at fileplanet
-from fileplanet, the beta will only be disclosed to fileplanet's subscribers

better! according to fileplanet subscribing do not guarantee your participation to the beta!!!

Thats what does not make sense.... offering it to only one site

I think multiple sites will have it and fileplanet is cashing in on the situation by placing the thought out there they are the only ones who will have access.

I could be wrong... I have to wait until Monday for clarification through my sources.

Fileplanet has betas all the time.  They have the download system, and private forum set-up that companies like for beta testing.

In terms of delivering a quality product to the customer, I can see several flaws in this.

If indeed some third party site has been given a so-called 'beta', can it really be true that microsoft allows anyone else to cash in on THEIR products?

If this is true it would certainly and justifiably breed conspiracy theory. Not a smart move by microsoft at this stage. I would have thought MS game studios would simply host the download on their own site.

Whenever I visit sites that claim to have something I need and I am directed to pay-subscription there are usually two words spoken here, the first begins with'P'
and the second word being 'OFF'. That site is immediately removed from my browser. I do not tolerate excuses to charge money.

Assume then some 'chosen people' have got an FSX beta, this in itself contradicts the deffinition of public beta. As far as I am aware I too am a member of the public, and the sim community. Where's my beta?

Be wary of what 'behind-closed doors' beta testers say, usually everything is in total praise of the product and nothing short of grovelling to the particular software house. In a note of sarcasm: "I wonder why that is?" Duh!!

In short, I would ignore anyway certain sites and their beta testers. Anyone can perform an evaluation and the best place for getting the plain facts with no bull is right here amongst ourselves.

We don't even charge for the service ;D

P.S. Looking at that site it certainly does look like in a sort of indirect way fileplanet will in effect be re-selling a microsoft product. If microsoft allows this, IT STINKS!!
