I installed FSX demo, and when i run it, always a message"a fatal error" pop up and I must shut off FSX. Untill now I never fly because this message stop me all the time.

What is going on?I have SP2 installed, I run FS 2004 very well.

Anybody has the same problem?

I'm a bit of a PC wiz.

First of all, I'm assuming you've closed all other programs.
Second of all, you haven't installed any addons yet...

Please list your current hardware configuration.

I have had the same problem. I get to the setup screen, pick my plane, settings at medium high, then click FLY NOW! and a dialog appears saying "There has been a fatal error.  I closed McAfee, but it didn't help.

I have Windows XP with SP2. My Specs are:
Dell Dimension DM051 with a Pentium 4 3.00 GHz, 1 Gig of RAM, and my graphics card is a RADEON X600 256 Megs. I hope that helps!

Well,  there are one of two things that may be your problem.  If you have set anything on your radeon which is different from the default settings, change it back, or download and install new drivers. ::)

second, FSX might not be compatible with your video card. :P

My problem is that my graphics card doesn't support certain aspects of the DDS textures, so in some VCs i can't see out the window...>:(

Dude, chill... 8)

Just cuz one graphics card, or processor, or anything else isn't compatible doesn't mean MS are scheming.

Besides, i you made a program, its highly unlikely that you would test it with every single hardware configuration possible.  It may be just a one-off thing...

Like I said.  Chill.  8)

Hi Striker

I see your comments about non-transparent cockpit windows.

True, some people note blacked out windows on one plane but not another. This difference though is not specific to any particular aircraft. For example I read some people have no problem with the floatplane cockpit.

This suggests to me there is some difference between the various VC's in the demo. Either in the MDL or with the DDS files.

Ok, it's just a demo, but it does point to some error in there somewhere. It is nothing to do with graphics cards. i.e. if one VC has transparant windows, so should another if the modelling methods are the same.

Actually, since I am here I might aswell  let you know I have a very good lead on the import texture problem. I think I know what causes this. Will post more in a few days.

What does it say apart from "fatal error". The error message should tell you what's gone wrong whether you understand what it's saying or not.

Do you have the latest Directx for example (9.0c or something I think).

Ok, I will try to reinstall FSX tonight, if I have time. I am sure my XP is well updated. My hardwares are follow:
Intel C 1.2G
GF2 MX400
512M RAM

OS: XP pro with SP2 DX9.0c
I will check my video driver tonight as well.

Wish me luck!

Bad luck!

Last night I reinstall FSX, and the error is the same.

The message is like a program error. It says: A FATAL ERROR occur and the program need to be closed. It prepares a report and ask me whether to send to microsoft. I open the message and it is so so so long, I dont understand anything on it. They are all letters and numbers.

So I decided to uninstall FSX demo and say bye bye to it for a while. Maybe I will get a new PC later this year and then try again. I know my PC is too old.

I will still enjoy my FS 2004 and thanks for all the replies here.

The black windows are a hardware limitation. You need a DX9 compliant video card to play the game.

And sorry xinmayu, but that video card is Direct X 8 compliant.
