Actually, if I remember well, we had this picture even before the first real FSX shots.

Looks pretty, but what exactly is DirectX? Why will it suddenly make water textures 10x better etc...

Thank you Cobra for the very interesting question. I'm pretty sure that the majority of new FS users would most likely ask the same thing as they visit forums like this to have certain questions answered. And thank you Joe for the interesting answer. I think this thread should be stickied so that the new users who come here would read this thread and understand its importants.

i put very little trust in anything relesed by by a company as large as microsoft. in waspiflab's post the water looks very suspect to exageration of qauility (sorry, bad english::)). concept art is NOT something i would base expectations on. i really REALLY hope they are accurate though

You have to honest how shit FSX looks in the demo ( ok I know it's a demo ) but this will get so much better once vista and DX10 is out. Apart from the water it's not realy that different to FS2004 at the moment and thats because thier just toying with us.

Yes, threre are so many bugs and limitations in the demo...
Example: it has been discovered that higher resoloution ground textures can not be utilized if the water "shader" is set

That's the purpose of a demo. It's only designed to shows us all what to expect on the final version and how better it "might" be with Vista and DX10. Like I said before, the demo is the just the appetizer while the final version is the main course.
