FSX burns my system

Postby cavity » Sun Aug 20, 2006 8:37 pm

Hi, as I am sure most of your know, FSX is a real burner on modest systems.  Even at mid settings, flying the RJ puts me in the 10-12 and it is choppy.  I have a pent 4, 2.6 ghz, 1gb of 3200 ram, 9600 pro, and 10000 rpm hard drive.  I know Im a bit outdated, but Ive been away from hardware for a bit.  Nick, Nexus, Joe D,  and some of the other computer savvy members, what do think you think will be required to play the sim at 20 fps with good to max settings?  I plan on waiting for Vista and dx10, so I have some time.  I dont have an unlimited budget, but  I want to spend my money on the right stuff.  Could you make some recommendations on minimum processor, ram, and video cards that you would expect to provide decent performance.  I know its hard to tell, but I assume some of the members here could provide alot of insight.  Thanks, I appreciate your input.  Todd

There are no recommandations at the moment, since nobody knows what kind of hadware will be available in 6 months, when Vista and DX10 will be available.

The only things that can be said: Take the fastest DX10 video card you can, and as much as fast RAM you can.

I have answered this many times...

Dual Processor
Supporting Motherboard
2 gigs minimum of memory
DX10 card

Its better to wait until DX10 is released AND tested in combat before running out and buying

By that time the next gen of motherboards wil be hitting the shelves which I suspect will be geared toward DX10.

Dual Processor
2 gigs of GOOD memory (min)
DX10 related hardware

What Nick said.

If you can't afford a Dual core processor a single core should do. But dual core imrproves things allot, particularly the terrain and stutters.
