Okay, so after going through all the trouble of downlaoding and installing FSX I go to play and get this error.

"MSXML4 SP2 Cannot be found. Please reinstall FS to fix this error."

So I go ahead and reinstall it, however I still get the same error message. And whats the first thing I think of? Google! I find the answer I'm looking for on Microsoft.com and try to reinstall the MSXML but to no avail. Running out of thoughts I try one last thing, boot up Vista, and install it there.....and YES!!! it works. But heres the downside, I only get 10~12 FPS. Which is flyable, but not when I get 60+ in FS9.

So my question to you is did any of you have a similar problem and how did you fix it. Cus I mean as much as I love useing Vista as my only OS, I really can't stand 12FPS.

Cheers
Cameron

I had a similar error report to CT Joyce's, and I suspect it is because I don't have SP 2 installed....

It was impossible to install the program...!

I have a funny idea that FSX will not run without Service Pack 2 being present...WHY?....:)...!

My fear is that folks like myself, who unwittingly purchase FSX, without being fully aware of the restrictions on the box, like SP2, will find that they have wasted their money and will have to return it.... :'(...!
I don't recall these sort of problems occurring with the previous versions of the Flight Simulators running under Win '98, and the original Win XP SP1.... ;)...!

Microsoft's Security and software protection paranoia is affecting much of our hardware and software nowadays, unless constant security, etc, upgrades are installed and in place...!

I'm afraid that my lowly 56k dial-up will not cope with Bill's constant, massive security downloads anymore...:'(...!

FSX is a no-no for me unless I purchase another latest, very expensive, full boxed version of Windows XP Pro SP2 on top of the cost of FSX... :'(...!
A very expensive exercise... :o...!

Service pack 1 has served me very well, with no problems, since in was first released some years ago...and it installs and re-installs with no problems....;D...!

Paul...Win XP Pro SP 1.... FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002 and FS 2004.....no problems... ;D...!

This was my first thought when I found out about it. Why? ???

I had no problems installing the FSX demo so assume I already had SP2 installed without my knowledge. This is a fairly new machine which I purchased with WinXP Home already installed.

If you want to try it someone suggested that the FSX Demo & SP2 will probably be included on games magazine cover discs. I think this is quite likely.

PS. I've had no problems with SP2 that I know of. Of course, I don't know what it was like without it.

Tee-Hee...;D...!

It's beautiful without it , Doug....trust me.... ;)...!

Like many others, I get no annoying "firewall" problems whilst using Multiplayer....(My Anti-Virus programs take care of that)...;)...!
...and just yesterday, I uninstalled and reinstalled Win XP Pro.....(even after hardware changes)....for the umpteenth time....without having to phone up Uncle Bill in some mansion in the US, to beg him for his glorious permission to do so.... ;D... ;D... ;D...!
...Fantastic... 8)...!

Paul....with fond memories of uncomplicated, Win '98SE.... 8)...!

I am still waiting for Nvidia to put out some Vista graphics drivers that will work with the 7950.

As soon as that happens I will reinstall Vista.

Their out here

x64 is here

However I have tried everything under the sun to get this to work, and my only assumption is something went wrong when I tried to install SP2. So I may uninstall it and reinstall it. Thankfully it was a recent change.

However I'm not too sure wethar I want to leave FS9. I mean that the FSX demo is great in all, but being stuck in the islands kinda sucks. So I may just wait for the real game to come out.

Hmmm

Didn't have any problem like that. I didn't have SP2 installed in my XP Pro after all the criticisms I've read about it and I always thought it would reduce my FR in FS2004.

Far from it. Installed it for FSX and FS2004 runs smoothly and at least as fast as before. Could even be a bit quicker... ;)

Roger,

Another thread (somewhere here) mentioned that the SP2 upgrade involved three or four package installations that if you didn't get them all, your machine would slow up. Did you see this when you installed SP2? I have the demo and SP2 sitting waiting on my hard drive, but still vacillating on installing SP2....

Wish I was more decisive...

;)
