Okay, I have downloaded the f*#@#$ file 5 f*#@#$ times now. (yeah, that would be about 3 GB downloaded). And EVERY F*#@#$ time it says the f*#@#$ file is corrupt!

I tried with a download manager, withOUT a download manager, with a segmented download, withOUT a segmented download an nothing...

I tried from different download sites (Microsoft, file planet, file front and game sheller) and got the same friggin result. WTF? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I tried a zip recovery utility, and it says "incompatible file" (or some crap like that)

Any ideas what might be the problem?. I

Are you sure your internet connection isn't falling out? and then finishing the download with a bad file.

A mate of mine phoned this evening, who is an I.T. geek.

He said it might sound stupid but you should eliminate anyway:: "turn off any anti-virus apps because these will be running through the downloaded file, possibly even as you are downloading it. It could be that during the check something is either getting corrupted or simply trashed altogether."

You may not have anti-virus, but if so please eliminate the possibility.

In any event, he says the corruption message IS genuine, the error message itself is NOT a bug. The download really is corrupted.

x_jasper:

I downloaded once, and didn't even turn off my antivirus program (MacAffee).  Install went on without a hitch.

My FS-X problems are graphics related, the result of an old(er) ATI Radeon 9000 /64Meg card, with the latest ATI drivers.

Same here felix,

one download-- nothing corrupted.

Anti-virus progs either break things or they don't. This is why some installations tell you to disable.

STOP!!!--------- :o

My two lads each just downloaded the demo, one has Mcaffee, the other an older Norton.

The Norton screwed it !!  Mcaffee went ok.

Apparantly either could mess it up, but it does show these progs can cause problems.

That's funny, I have "Internet Security" from Norton and there were no problems at all when I downloaded and installed the demo. ;D

This is what have:

1. Internet Security 2003 with Firewall [I know, it's old, but the updates are good]

2. Zone Labs' Zone Alarm

So basically, I have two seperate firewalls and the download went without a hitch through both of them. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm just pointing out the fact that I am amongst the lucky few. ;D

Bit of a lucky draw lol

Personally I don't use anti-virus, I don't like the drop in performance.

I think it's anti-virus software that causes the problem.

You're right, it's Hagar's cosmic presence causing all these disturbances!

Is it really a good idea to run a comp w/o anti-virus?

Yes, as long as you have at least one firewall running for protection while you are connected to the internet.
