That, and IL-2 is a combat sim. Take off, blow stuff up, and return. It's not really ment for real-life navigation.

I wasn't taking about the sim itself, but more about the way the cockpits are modelled.

If every plane needs a VC, should every VC need legs, a shoulder when you look out the window and moving hands as you advance the throttle??? 2D panels are in a way actually more realistic...

Yes they should, just like those car sims that won't let you select the gear while you were using your handbrake. These are added real-life difficulties, which  I call "realism".

2D panels are in a way actually more realistic...

2D panels are easier to use, and offer the user a way to avoid some real life issues, like accessing some buttons or gauges while trying to keep an eye outside toward 10 or 2 o'clock...

I find that 2d panels may be more friendly, in some ways, but a prefer the VCockpit for these reasons:

1.  I can look around with the hat switch
2.  I can position my 'head' anywhere I want in the cockpit
(thanks to my Saitek X45's 3 hat switches and mouse switch)
3.  It just gives more of a sense of realism
4.  I find that alot of the 2D cockpits take up too much of the screen, so I don't know where I'm flying

I don't particularly want MS to get rid of the 2D panels, its just that I don't like'em much. :P

But then again, alot of people can't model the VCs so I just fly outside. ;D

In Aces High you only have 1 cockpit that combines elements of both fs9 cockpits. it is a snap view environment and has extremely smooth gauges. it also has full animation of the yoke/stick/pedals.

(If any of you have played Aces High you will know what i'm talking about.)
