I wonder how they are doing theses roads.....

Postby Airshow_lover » Fri Jun 23, 2006 10:40 pm

Well, i was thinking, How are they going to be doing this road traffic?

Are there going to be cars getting off the roads or are they just going ot go around and around and around?

I would hate to see that.

I am excited by this road traffic but i cant help but see a few problems.

I wonder if you get on the road whether or not they(the cars) will yield to you.

I also wonder whether or not the cars will drive on the wrong side of the road in england :P

Doubt it

HIGHLY doubt it

Thats to much to ask, this is a FLIGHT sim. If you want "realistic" car behavior buy a game just for that.  ;) :D ;D

I have to agree with BAW. This is the first time that M$ is implementing such a new and complex system. I someone like me who creates car addons wouldn't demand that much given the fact that simulating car traffic around the world [let alone program the cars to yeild] is a daunting task for a "flying" simulator.

Me, I only hope that M$'s roads are just smooth enough to ride on.

This is what i think

i think that there are small segments of road that MS has created with traffic and they just copy the same segment over all of the roads. Ive seen other games like this, and when a car hits the end of that copied segment, itll move back to the starting point...

who knows... i may be wrong

Didn't they say that the animals would break and run when you buzzed them? Surely the code could be used for cars and still not look too stupid.

The car traffic will probably be a looping animation on certain roads, just like it is now with certain addons

And will probly only show up near airports and maby in citys, they wouldnt spend the time to make highway traffic, but let the developers work their magic and maby we can have some awsome traffic in the sim  ;D

It would be amazing if the cars did go everywhere!!! :)  :-*

I doubt it will happen though, I mean, it's a Flightsim not a carsim. Also imagine the computer you'd need to do the calculations of the cars  :o :o ;)

I don't see why the cars can't be AI.  All thats needed is waypoints following the shapes of the roads and destinations and start points.  Startpoints and destinations can be easily harvested from usage statistics from software like autoroute (or one of the online services if auto route dosn't send the data about where people travel too or from to m$).  The cars can easily be made to interupt there navigation if they detect your plane infront of them or if there is another car in front of them they can easily be made to slow down for junctions and as trffic flow data is avaialble traffic can be modled in realistic volume on all roads shown in the sim and roads no volume data is available for can be estimated by the avrage volume of trafic on a road that size.

Sure sounds weird...said like this ;)
Have you ever tried this old helicopter sim named "Search and Rescue" (the vey first one).
It was consisting only in missions, and I would actually really LOVE to see such missions in FSX, because they were for the major part very realistic and very challenging on a piloting point of view:
- going to an accident on the higway, land in front of the police and firemens then bring the injured persons back to the hospital
- chasing a "bad guy" on the highway for cinematographic purposes (you were supposed to carry a cameraman and the challenge was to keep close enough to the car for long enough)
- and some other stuff I forgot....
This was fun, challenging and realistic. Sure that was not flying from VOR to VOR, i understand one can be deluded about that  ::)  ;)  ;D
