I have a lot of payware planes that were orginally for FS2004. My question is,once FSX arrives, will the producers (Eaglesoft,Flight1,etc..) release patches so I can use my FS2004 addons in FSX?

Thanks...
;D

It is my understanding that most third party add-ons for FS-9 will work with FSX also with little or no mods needed.

Last year MSFS invited many top FS developers to a conference to Discuss FSX and future

Pardon me for straying a little bit off topic, but since we're talking about backwards compatability, I like to make a point just in case.

From what I have experienced and seen over the past several years, some people usually complain that M$ is ignoring the community when it comes to improvements. In my opinion, I think they are listening rather than ignoring.

Think about it. You all want M$ to improve many things like the dynamics on the next sim, right? But at the same time, you want the next sim to work well with the addons that you have used for the old sim, right? That's where the red tape comes in. In order for a sim to be backwards compatible with addons of an old sim, it will have to be based on a few of the principles that revolve around the old sim. Therefore, the new sim will still inherit the old design flaws of the old sim because we, the common users, wanted backwards compatibility.

If everyone on the entire globe decided to forget backwards compatibility, then M$ would then have the chance to fix the major bugs that are apparent in the current and old sims, therefore giving the FS series a fresh start and get a better chance against X-Plane. However, in reality, most users want backwards compatibility. So we're going to see at least one old flaw in the new sim one way or the other.

So knowing that, I hope to see that giant spike when FSX comes out. ;D

I never thought of that before.  I'm not a pilot, so I wouldn't know much about flight dynamics, but i've seen plenty of footage (not from movies, except for Top Gun) of aircraft and their manouver abilities.

But with flight dynamics, I think only the aircraft cfg files should be changed, not the models.  You can still have the same aircraft model, with a different cfg file.  I once made a 747 take the place of an F-14 (which did actually keep the collision stuff from the f-14 cfg, and I could still launch from an aircraft carrier.  looked pretty stupid tho).

I think that If ms wanted to make the physics and stuff better, then they should be fine with models.  The authors of the addons should put out new, free CFGs for their aircraft.  If the authors still exists.  :P

It seems to me that flight model is just one small (important) aspect of FS.

Why can't there be a new/improved filght model

*In general*  models built *strictly* to the FS2004 SDK should operate without a problem in FS-X.  (Note that there is a lot of fuge factor in that statement).

Some models may have specific hard codings that FS-X may not recognize, but these should be few.

Most payware companies are NOT making predictions, one way or another, of the compatibility of their FS2004 add-ons in FS-X, which, if you think about it, they can't until they get tested in the final release version of FS-X.

Whether a FS2004 (payware) model needs a patch to run in FS-X, and whether that patch is free or or not is a commercial decision for the company.

Which brings me back to my last thought. I hope to see at least a giant terrain spike when FSX comes out. ;D
