Clouds

Im not sure if its been asked or mentioned before, but do you  think they are going to fix the clouds?  Right now they are super FPS intense because they are modeled as a whole bunch of flat polys mixed together in such a way to give an illusion of 3D.  Are we going to have REAL 3D clouds?  I think that would help FPS.

Also, even though it might hurt more than it helps, id like 3D trees.

the clouds are awsome currently if you use the right textures.  At the moment the only way you could get better looking clouds would be to use some kind of partical effect but that would need way too much rendering power so it's likly the clouds will stay the same in fsx with more polys and higher res textures.

From the screens I've seen, I'd say they would be the same. I mean, they are a vast improvement over FS8 anyway. :P

And 3D trees? Nuh-uh. Even Kobe's or Ashar's system would be on its knees.

3D clouds are no problem on my system...3D trees...I have yet to see even a Payware add-on that have those...all of what I have seen are 2D macros placed so that they look like trees...

the point of a game is to make money for who ever makes it. so if its to complex for the vast majority of pcs it wont sell much so dont expect it to be super.
But i would like to see clouds that are the same as fs9 but not so killer on the frame rates. if thats possible

but even now when looking to the sky the clouds in the games are still a way from the real thing exp with big thunder heads and really thik clouds.

I dunno, Lads...
I already love the option of creating my own cloud formations with very little frame rate hit in FS 2004 as it is...!
As a VFR Pilot, dangerous clouds have to be avoided at all cost...so an approaching thunderstorm will leave me safely on the ground until it has passed... ;)...!

Amazing cloud formations are best left to "Screen Shot Enthusiasts"...or those with suicidal tendencies....;)...!
...trust me... ;D...!

LOL...!

I think the clouds in fs9 are just fine...

I am happy because I get no performance hit at all by clouds, but on my old geforce 4, the clouds completly brang it to its knees.

As usual I hope they include some new technology to further imrpove them :)

I would like to see at least real thunder tops going up to 30,000 ft or even 60,000ft as they do in the tropics (in the distance mind you as no sensiblr pilot would fly near them!!!)  Also some real stratus with grey bottoms.

actualy on  the contrary i woul love to have some sirious simulated storms for fsx so i could see how dangerous it is to fly through a thunderhead. I would know by doing so in the simworld, because you can risk it all in the fs world. Reset is just a key stroke away. unfortunatly in the real airline jet amoung all the buttons and knobs there is no such button :)

Would it be possible in FSX I wonder, to have winds aloft that simulate mountain waves for example.  Would a sim model 707 be able to survive whereas the real a/c could not.  I'm referring here to the BOAC disaster over Mount Fuji in 1966. The pilot re-routed closer the Fuji to give the passengers a better look but flew into a mountain wave which caused the a/c to break up.

I think it would be nice if aircraft lights would reflect off the clouds as they did in fs98, strobes and all!
